6 months for a thank you??

Original post by hsacks23r

We went to a wedding in 8/2005 and just now got our thank you cards. What is the normal time span that a thank you should be recived??

I am planning to get mine out as soon as possible. Its understandable the certain delays when you want to include a picture. My theorectical goal is to slowly write out the thank yous until the pictures arrive and then all i have to do is add picture and then mail. That's my plan anyway.

This is exactly what I have been doing. My goal was to do 10 per night, but that turned out to be an unrealistic goal, with coming home late some nights, doing things in the house, etc.... It will be DH's job to insert the pictures, seal the envelopes, and put the postage on them. After all, I did ALL the writing!

It depends on if wedding photos are included (inside or on the actual card). If the photographer takes 3 - 6 months to get the couple the photos, it will take 4 - 7 months to mail out the cards (assuming time to order them and get them printed).

I'm pretty sure couples have 1 year to mail out thank you cards just like guests have up to 1 year to send a gift.

I agree.

ditto

I did mine at 5 months

I am handmaking my thank you cards so it will take me awhile to finish making them. I was planning on writing everything out though so when i get the photos i can just insert and send. I hear though that it takes more than a few months to receive the photos.

i already rec'd a gift off my registry... so i sent a thank you card right away... obviously no pic since i am getting married in March, what i plan to do is send thank you cards if gifts arrive before the wedding and send pic thank yous when they arrive.

That's what I did. If I received a gift prior to the wedding, I had purchased TY cards from a stationary store and sent out the TY right away. After the wedding (if that person came to the wedding) I sent them another thank you card thanking them for coming and thanking them for the gift again.

Yes, that's also what Ms. Post says...

I've received some about a month after a wedding and I've received some 11 months after a wedding (without a picture) and a bunch in between. Then there are two weddings I went to that it's been 18 and 15 months and I haven't received anything.

mine are going out approx 3 months after the wedding too. I just got my pics back from my photographer, which is why it is taking so long. I went to a wedding in September and just got a thank you. I personally dont see anything wrong with getting a thank you up to 6 months after the wedding.

Re: 6 months for a thank you??

proper etiquette says you have a year to send them out- maybe it took the photographer time to get the pics to them?
