9/11 Coincidence

I went to the bridal store yesterday and the man there said that some brides were coming in saying that reception halls were giving them great rates for this day......they couldn't resist. I didn't even realize 9/11 was on a Sat. this year. I wouldn't have though to pick that date though.

You would think! But I asked around and alot of halls were NOT giving out discounts... but that was early last year, by now they might be getting desperate and offering discounts...

I was wondering about that. I was originally considerign September, and noticed it was a Saturday, and didn't knwo if I shoud rule it out even though no one in my family was directly affected, butwe went with October jsut to have more time.

I was wondering if other people would avoid that date as well.

i was considering september too, and saturdays in particular, and it was either a jewish holidy (fh family is jewish) or 9/11 anniversary.

We have 9/11 brides here on LIW

Had I realized sooner I would have picked that day... HANDS DOWN!

My hall didn't offer a discount. when we went in and we said we wanted a saturday in september, he mentioned that date to us. We just happened to pick the labor day weekend out of convenience of the 3 day weekend and for the honeymoon(shio leaves the day after the wedding) but I would have picked it also.

I'm having my wedding on 9/11 and did receive a discount from the hall... I think it's a great day to celebrate a new life...

Yes, it is. I agree, yet I also thought people would think it's inappropriate, but Ithink as long as you didn't loose someone that day, it is fine.

I agree with Searsc I'm having mine on 9/10 only because 9/11 was taken!! I think u are starting a new life and a beautiful one it is going to be!! I was directly affected by september 11 so I was also going to do it as a tribute to my uncle cause I know that was what he would of wanted for me!!

Personally - I wouldn't do it. We were personally affected by that day (FH was there) and I don't think I could ever have my wedding on Sept 11. But that's just me...

I'm suprised to hear that soem halls didn't offer a discount for that date. Every hall that had that date available offered it to me with a hefty discount. I wasn't too sure about the date so we went with October.

My family was personally affected by 9/11 too. But, I think good things should happen on that day. I have a cousin who's doctor scheduled her c-section for this past 9/11 and people thought it was weird. But, we should be celebrating babies and weddings and remember the day in a good way. JMO

i love the idea of celebrating on 9/11 - to take away the pain of the day and to let the terrorists know that they can't stop us from living ouyr lives. yes, it as a sad day - but what better way to show them that they' can't win than to ignore their efforts to bring us down?
i have a friend who is getting married on her father's birthday because he died a few years back, so she picked that date to make sure he was there with her and to let him know that she remembers him..

That is a wonderful idea! Celebration instead of mourning!

That's so sweet. My brother chose my grandfather's birthday for his wedding date. FH and I don't see each other very often so we didn't have many opportunities to get engaged in the first place, but he was here for my brother's wedding and that's when he popped the question!! When we asked my brother if he minded, he said not at all--now two good things have happened on Papa's birhtday

I'm not sure I would want to get married on that day. Too sad of a rememberance.

I was there too that day I have mixed emotions still. I say who ever feels that is too tough that is fine...some feel that be having a wedding its celebrating new live...I respect both sides.
I actually found My wedding dress on the 1 year anniversary...I thought it would bring my sprits up...it did.
I don't think we will ever forget what happened...we just all deal with it differently
Which is alright in my book
