a different first dance song?

Hi ladies,

FH and I can't seem to find a first dance song that we both like. I wouldn't mind something a bit upbeat and different. Does anyone have some ideas for a more upbeat first dance song?

We used 'The First, The Last, My Everything' by Barry White - very upbeat and different. Everyone loved it, and the lyrics are perfect for a first dance.

That song and Let's Stay Together are PERFECT choices!

We have to have the Barry White song at our wedding...it's kind of a joke with FH and I. Doesn't quite go with our Bon Jovi musical theme though does it?

I've seen 'How Sweet it is to be Loved by You' by James Taylor...

And I also heard a story of how one couple used MONY MONY! (yes!!! Mony Mony!) as their first dance song!!!

We used 'The First, The Last, My Everything' by Barry White - very upbeat and different. Everyone loved it, and the lyrics are perfect for a first dance.

Our friends used it and it was great.

FH and I have a song - ACDC you shook me all night long

not for those reasons but when we first started dating anytime we got in a car together the first song on the radio would always always be that song - still happens occasionally today...

Obviously not so appropriate for first dance song....
Our first dance song wil be Elvis's 'The Wonder of You.' It is a little slow but the words are so sweet. That is FH's song to me- always has been.

I may have to get the ACDC song played at the very end of the day while the DJ is packing up lol

There are a few songs that we've liked through the years but when you look at the lyrics they're not quite right for a first dance. Example: we love 'wild horses' by the sundays but the lyrics are depressing when you actually look at them. Other songs are Mariah Carey's 'Always be my Baby' but FH would NEVER dance to it in front of others. He wants a song called 'Livin' in a Dream' by The Band but it sounds really hillbilly to me. I asked my sister's opinion to see if I am crazy and she totally agreed it sounds hick-ish. Too bad FH loves it and cries every time he hears it I might be stuck with it but I wanted to provide him with alternatives.

I really like the suggestions so far. Keep them coming please.

We too wanted something different. We danced to Adam Sandler's 'Grow Old with You' Our DJ suggested we have a 2nd song too b/c that song is fairly short and we wanted to dance alone to that. We also danced to Marc Cohn's 'True Companion' The words of that song are amazing and I get goose bumps everytime I hear it!

My husband sang that song on a whim at our wedding. I was so embarrassed but it was funny. We recently got our proofs back and there are a few with him singing. It's funny because when we first started dating I caught him in the shower singing the song so loudly. He was horrible! LOL.

My friends have used this at the end of the wedding as the last song. I love it. Barry Whites music is great!!!!

What about 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol? Or 'yellow' by Coldplay? They definitely aren't traditional but they have nice lyrics.

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol will be my 1st dance song!! We love it b/c it reminds of when we first started dating. We would go out out clubbing all night, and just lay around the next day! It's so perfect for us. Plus, we are not the slow dance type of people.
