A dumb question

I've always wondered this...

How can it be that there are two houses situated side by side on a block, and one might be number '17' and the VERY next house is '31'

How can this be? Who numbers the streets?

I dont know but I heard its a Long Island thing...

I have one better how can one be in one town and one in the other!

yeah... like me, just my block is Massapequa, and everything surrounding me is Massapequa Park! Makes no sense...

usually it means that you switch towns at that point.
i have a friend who lives at# 212 and the house next door to her is just #2 b/c it's a town change.

I just noticed that 2 adjacent houses on MY block are 17 and 13 Fern Ave. Both are east islip. What happened to 15?!

My old block used to be every other even number on one side and every other odd on the other.

Oh you did NOT just insult woodland animals...

Probably because it used to be less populated, So 18 was all the way down the street. Then people started cutting up their property and selling it. Maybe?

FH's block is the same thing. His house is #86 and the one right next to him is #82. He's the corner house and the one across the street from him is #98. I don't get it either.
