A POEM: A Country Girl's Ode to Ovulation

A Country Girl's Ode to Ovulation
by Impatient

Yesterday I spent just way too much time
Worrying ‘bout things I ought not,
Wondering about these weird cramps of mine,
And what’s up with the hag’s dog, Spot?

I spent the whole day, lamenting my womb,
For its refusal to play by the rules.
I kept a close watch for the One With The Broom.
Who taunts me and calls me a fool.

“Am I annov again?”, I cry in despair.
“Are my ovaries drier than dust?”
I whimper and wail “Life just isn’t fair!
I just know that this cycle’s a bust!”

But my friends picked me up, as they so often do,
And looked over each dot on my chart.
“You’re ovulating, girl! We just know that it’s true!”
(…..and it turns out my friends are quite smart.)

This morning I woke up with temps nice and high,
And my outlook has now turned around.
Today the sun’s shining. So blue is the sky,
And my feet just barely touch ground.

“I O’d! I O’d!” I shout it out loud!
(The cattle outside reply “moo”.)
I strut through the house, feeling quite proud
That my ovaries knew what to do.

You’d think I’d accomplished some newsworthy task --
Something noble and brave and good.
But my girly-parts did that great thing that I asked,
And I just wasn’t sure that they would.

My man was a sport, stepping up to the plate.
Our timing was really quite fine.
There’s nothing left now but to wait….wait….wait.
And obsess over every small sign.

I just want a baby, one sweet little kid,
Just one precious child, if I could.
But if I don’t get one soon, like Gepetto once did,
I’ll carve me one out of wood.

Jenny I loved it too, those that have been TTC for a long time really do go thru a lot and I think even thru writing some feel better by venting. I enjoyed this poem a lot
