A Q? for ladies on BC

A Q? for ladies on BC

Hi. I think I'm finally gonna take the leap and get on some BC. I was reading online and the side effects are really scaring me. I really really don't want to get sick. Please let me know what pill you're on and what the side effects ahve been and how long they lasted. it's esp annoying because if you've read my other posts, you'll know I live with my parents and I'll have to hide BC use from them, and I don't want to be puking all over the place, etc.

Let me know..thanks! Please explain what side efects you had an the severity and how long they lasted. I know everyone is different, but....

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC

I had the least of symptoms....headaches, that's it. I still get them before AF....so it might not have had anything to do with the pill. No spotting, EVER and I was on them almost 10 years.....I used to switch from one pill to another, still no problems. I would skip AF when I wanted/needed to. Oh...sometimes I would get BAD headaches or SUPER moody, then the DR would change the pill. But then, I still get super moody.....I'm no help, am I???

So all in all, no symptoms!

I would try it, if it isn't for you, you can stop. I was on it for a while and loved it, but started to get really bad migraines more frequently than when I was not on the pill so I had to stop. I miss it!

Thanks! Keep it coming ladies!

I figure AF makes me moody anyway..as long as I'm not moody all the time. I get headaches anyway, sof if they cna be controlled with naps and aleve, that's ok. I'm mostly worried aout nausea/vomiting and weight gain, stuff like that. I also don't want to have crazy mood swings and headaches 24/7. I guess the only way to find out is to try. My PA said she has samples of BC, if I'm on it. So it made me think I can broach the subject with her. Do you have to have blood tests first or something? Or if you're pretty healthy cna you just start?

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC

Alright, calm down Your post sounded a little frantic.

I've taken, over the past 5 years or so, Mircette, Kariva and Mercilon - all low-dose pills. I haven't experienced very much in the way of side effects - a little bit of gradual weight gain. So gradual, in fact, that I didn't even notice it until I went off (I ran out of pills and didn't get myself to the clinic in time and so now I have to wait for AF before starting up again) and I've noticed my breasts are not as large as they were when I was on it and I feel a little thinner.

There are actually a lot of benefits to being on teh pill that you don't hear about (my doctor pointed this out to me when I voiced the same concerns as you). Besides knowing exactly when to expect AF, the pill really helps my PMS and cramps, I don't feel as irrational, not as many mood swings, etc. And, although I did gain a little weight, there is not so much up and down during my cycle - meaning I don't feel as much bloating and weight gain right around my period. AF is lighter and shorter.

You should definitely make an effort to take the pill at the same time every day for the best results.

Good luck!!

ETA: My doctor said that as many women lose weight as those who gain weight, but you don't hear about that too much because it's a good thing, not a bad thing.

Ok. I'm feeling better about this. I mean, if the side effects really suck i can just stop. Of course there's always the parents thing...

Do you have to get them from the GYN or can a regular doc prescribe?

I didn't have any spotting either. When I stopped taking the pill I realized just how much I loved it. I went from 3 to 4 day period, very light, hardly any cramps to 7 day long, very heavy and very crampy ones. I miss it! I'd give it a try.

I don't really have side effects either.

Although, I have other problems with my ovaries, I need to find a specialist.

I was spotting when I started, but after a few months it stops.

I am on Seasonale, not because I want to because I have to
