Hi. I think I'm finally gonna take the leap and get on some BC. I was reading online and the side effects are really scaring me. I really really don't want to get sick. Please let me know what pill you're on and what the side effects ahve been and how long they lasted. it's esp annoying because if you've read my other posts, you'll know I live with my parents and I'll have to hide BC use from them, and I don't want to be puking all over the place, etc.
Let me know..thanks! Please explain what side efects you had an the severity and how long they lasted. I know everyone is different, but....

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I have been on a few of them also.
I started with Ortho Cyclin and it mde me a crazy women. I would cry for the stupidest things, get angry at nothing etc.
Next I went to LoEstrin (much more mild pill) I did great on this one virtually no side effects.
My insurance company stopped paying for the brand name so I switched to the generic. I have more side efects with this one but still no where near as many as I did with Ortho Cyclin. Nothing serious just moodiness, occasional spotting a few days prior, headaches during that time.
My sister on the other hand tried three different pills and none of them worked for her. One made her extremely moody. Another gave her really bad headaches. with the last one she would get her period every two weeks..
Everyone is different.

Everyones body is different. You may need to try a few different pills before you find the right one. I've been on a few of the ortho pills, loestrin, and one another. Right now i am a complete advocate of the BC patch. It is the only one that hasn't left me with any side effects and you only change it once a week. It never comes off during the week. I'm very happy with it.

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
Yeah I can get them myself and hide them. I'm also under FH's insurance now so my parnets won't see it, etc. FH's plan is to keep the pack at his house (to keep track of days) and then give me like a week at a time that I cna stick in a regular pill bottle (I have pills everywhere for allergies, my back, etc). I feel kind of sneaky going to the gyn without telling my mom, so I started broaching the subject saying :oh, you know I've been getting really bad cramps lately', so when I'm going I'll have an 'excuse.' I think I just have to go for it. I mean she'd figure out I was having sex if I ended up PG. SO I think I'm going to try it this way. Thanks so much for the support! I know this whole thing seems so stupid, but it's my situation right now.

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I was on BC for a few years and then a couple of years ago I had some side effects that caused me to stop taking it. But I had no serious side effects the first few years I was taking them.
ETA: Just read through e/t. I started BC when I was 19 b/c of really severe cramps and my mom was none too thrilled. But when she realized how it helped she was fine with it. So you can definitely go that route. Sorry you have to hide things from your mom, though (not that it's really anybody's business anyway!). But like e/o said you really have to find the one that works for your body. I was on ortho first, didn't like the side effects, went to allesse (was on for about 5 years and started having side effects) then switched to the patch which didn't help with side effects. Still working on finding s/t that won't give me such side effects. You'll find s/t that works for your body.

I was on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo for awhile and then switched to Ortho Evra (the patch) for the convenience of only having to change the patch once a week. I've never had any side effects with either.
