Hi. I think I'm finally gonna take the leap and get on some BC. I was reading online and the side effects are really scaring me. I really really don't want to get sick. Please let me know what pill you're on and what the side effects ahve been and how long they lasted. it's esp annoying because if you've read my other posts, you'll know I live with my parents and I'll have to hide BC use from them, and I don't want to be puking all over the place, etc.
Let me know..thanks! Please explain what side efects you had an the severity and how long they lasted. I know everyone is different, but....

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I was on orthotricyclen, and now I'm on some generic version thereof. No problems whatsoever. Good luck!

Did you guys get it from you gyn or regular doctor? i'm at my regular doctor 3x/week, so I thought that might be easier.
I would takl to your doctor about it. Not sure if he/she would be able to prescribe...but she could refer you to a OB/GYN. They have clinics here in London, just walk in a get them, it's great...you maybe able to go a planned parenthood or some other clinic if you're worried about your parents finding out.

I am on Yasmin and have had NO side effects as far as I can tell. Maybe some headaches but that is most likely stress related. No vomiting or spotting or mood swings!

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I was on Ortho Tricyclen for 5 years then switched to Ortho Lo for 6 months then went off...
I had no cramps (That is why I went on in the first place); I actually lost a little weight; my skin cleared up; no spotting ever; even when I first started taking them, I had no nausea. If I wans't trying to have a baby, I would still be on them!!

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
Are your parents really that strict?
Can you tell them you need to go on it to help cramps & regulate cycles?

I'm a little surprised you are an ENGAGED woman and you are hiding your birth control from your parents!

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
yes tourist, my parents ARE that strict I was thinking about telling them about ti and teling them it was for cramps or something, but I really feel like they'd know I was lying, blah blah and it would dtart a whole conversation I do not need to have with them. Just for one example of how my mom doens't know what's her business and what isn't, she yells at me for using tampons. She legitimately thinks something bad will happen. But ugh..SO not her business.

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I am on Trivora- it's the only pill that DIDN'T give me any of the systems. I think I may have had a little bit of weight gain, but nothing other than that.

I take Yasmin... the only side effect I had was spotting, but only the first month... other than that, I love it! I get it lighter and shorter than I used to, and I know exactly when it's coming!
There are so many now that if you get side effects from one you can always switch to another!
Good luck, let mek now if you have any questions!!

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 5 years and I've never had any side effects. There is an Ortho-Lo, which has a lower dose of hormones, and that might be a good choice for you.

I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 5 years.
Me too! At first I did feel a little nauseous--it helped to take it with food before bed. I don't think I gained weight, though my body changed...May have been aging too though--I am now in my mid-20s...I do think it lessened my 'wants' a little....

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
my face was a little dry when they were switching me between the name brand and the generic, but that's about it.
I didn't have any other side effects - good luck!

Re: A Q? for ladies on BC
When I was on the pill, my acne that I have had for 15 years cleared up entirely. I did gain a few lbs and in the beginning was getting nausea, dizzy etc. After that I had no problems whatsoever. After we have our 1st baby I will prob go back on until we try for a 2nd.
PS - Jennifer, my parents are like yours and I still lived at home when i went on it. can't you go get it on your own (do you have your own insurance)? and then hide it? dishonest i know, but it's your choice...

My mother is the same way. When I told her I wanted to go on them (which, actually, was ligitimatly (sp?) for cramps) she started yelling that I would not go on BC cuz it made it 'too easy' Then she kind of got over herself and realized that maybe the would be good since i was missing class once a month due to extreme pain...
good luck with what you decide!
