Let's just say that her husband had left the decision to her parents and they decided to take out the feeding tube. Would you opinion on the situation change?
It just seems as if some people are more upset about the fact that the husband was allowed to make the decision and not the result of the decision itself.

so we should kill all the vegetables?
IMO...If they are brain dead..they should be taken off life support system YES!
Keeping bodies here is disgusting and abusive!
SHe is waiting to be at peace!
Well, what about technological innovation.. what we could do today we couldn't do 20, even 10 years ago.. isn't there something to be said for younger people... keeping them alive if there is 'promise'? I'm not saying in THIS case- I'm saying in general...
I have another thought- how is killing all people on life support any different from what the Nazis did- gassing all the sick/retarded kids...?

I don't think life support (of any type) should be terminated unless all sides agree. (This being in the absense of any documentation based on what the patient wanted)
And, I don't think that someone who has already moved on should be able to decide if she lives or dies.
Just for argument's sake, what would this man do if Terri did make a full recovery? Would he leave his new family and be with her? I doubt it! Therefore, he should not have a say in whether she lives or dies.
SUE...IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER HUSBAND AND EVERYTHING OT DO WITH HER CONDITION
HER CONDITION...IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT HERE
NOT HER HUSBAND NOT THE MONEY NOT THE DOCTORS.... TERRI!!!
So if terris parents said to let her go...that would be ok????
IMO, it would only be okay if: they all KNEW that she would have wanted it to be this way.
This issue is not that her parents just feel like keeping her alive, just for the sake of it. They truly believe that she would NOT have wanted to die. That's why they are putting up this fight.
Again, IMO, I don't think the husband is a reliable source. He was messing around a year after this happened. And, he didn't even MENTION that she would have wanted to die until 8 years later. I just don't believe that he's telling the truth.

I think if one side wanted her alive that they should have the right to take care of her- whether it be the parents or the husband. What kills things for me is this man moved on and had 2 children with another woman. I don't feel he should have both- the rights to what happens to her and the right to move on. Wedding vows are sacred and if he couldn't walk away completely before moving on he should have kept his vows. For me when it comes to wedding vows it is black and white - no grey areas.
agreed.

but what would constitute all sides? Where do you draw the line?

Re: A question about the Terri Sheivo story
i thinks its sad that terri is suffering and i know her parents are properly feeling like they should be helping their daughter by wanting her on the feeding tube and yes it is properly a very hard thing to let a child die but with her off the feeding tube i thinkits the best that she rest in peace i heard today they are giving her till friday to live and i am sad about it but i say if its her time to go let her go because she wont be suffering anymore. as for her husband he is something else he already has another woman and two children so i seriously dont think he has a right to make a decision on Terri anymore he gave up those rights when he started his new life.

But, what if they specifically said, 'no matter what, keep me alive?'
Yesterday, my mother and my husband both announced to the WHOLE FAMILY that no matter WHAT, they want every possible thing to keep them alive- every possible intervention, they want it all.
So, GOD FORBID, this happens, would I be a disgusting and abusive person for keeping them all hooked up?

what if we used your standard and just started pulling the plus on people against their wills... is that not similar?

See, but I think that after they specifically told me: I want EVERYTHING possible (and, my mom is a nurse, so she knows all about PVS, and all of it) I would be murdering them, if I unhooked them, after being SPECIFICALLY told ' I want EVERY possible thing, no matter what.'

RETARDED PEOPLE ARE NOT BRAIN DEAD...adn to make a comparison as if it relevant is riduculous!
AND no it isn't similar at alll! THEY HAVE NO WILL...THEY HAVE NOT THOUGHT...THEY HAVE ONLY A BODY.

Re: A question about the Terri Sheivo story
Would it still be wrong... absolutely. It has nothing to do who is making the decision. Like Don said it is inhumane, and there are children that I have worked with that are brain dead and on feeding tubes, every parent did not decide that they'd pull the tube on their child.. IMO food is a necessity to live.. should not be seen as something that could be taken away to make someone die in her case.

WELL You are right and i take that back...if it is their wish ...i agree follow it...I just don't think you or your family REALLY know the gravity of your decision...and THAT part i guess is SAD

Re: A question about the Terri Sheivo story
imo - it could go either way. fact is, we the people don't know all the facts. the media takes things as they would like it. i have reasons for keeping her alive and not. i hope i never have to make a decsion like that in my life thus i avoid talking about it. DW ask me this on HM before bed one night... and i said exactly what i said before. she didnt' say any further what she would want me to do. deep down, any decesion is a correct one. To sit in a bed confined for the rest of your life without a posibilty of knowing you will be better is horrible..then again, medcine or somthing can be found tomorrow to make her better. It's a sad story and like every story, so body will get hurt from it.

Re: A question about the Terri Sheivo story
how are you murdering them if they are braindead. if the family wants to let go of their loved one because they are suffering and there is no life there how are you murdering them? i mean if that was mean if i was braindead for 15 years i would not want to be on a feedingtube just let me go peacefully!

if i remember my history lessons correctly- it was actually mostly all people in care facilities or those that didn't meet a certain standard.
I guess my point is- putting a standard on what is or is not acceptable living conditions is a very dangerous thing to do.. I don't think ANYONE has the right to say someone's life is or is not worth living- it is up to the individual. I guess that's a huge problem here- not REALLY knowing Terry's issue and her husband being so shady.
