A review of a wedding I attended this weekend
I went to a wedding this past Sunday for a couple we are friends wtih. It was held at the Woodbury Country Club, and I wanted to share my review for all those girls still in the planning stage if it helps. This review is in my opinions only... I don't mean to offend anyone, if that happen to be the case. My hubby was in the wedding party. Just thought I preface my reviews with that (I got a little behind the scenes details from that aspect!).As you may recall, it rained all day Sunday, so the outdoor ceremony had to be moved indoors. I think the WCC did a nice job setting up the chapel inside. However, I arrived at 5:45 for the 6 p.m. ceremony, and waited for 20 minutes in a line of cars to be valet parked. The problem was that a wedding had ended at about this time, so the valets were getting the cars of people leaving, and the line of cars for people arriving was backing up onto Jericho Tpke. I thought I was missing the ceremony at this point. When I finally did get in, there was total chaos in the lobby. There were 2 weddings to go on at 6 p.m., but because of the rain, guests from both weddings were crammed into the lobby. It was hot and stuffy, and no one knew what was going on.
The ceremony was beautiful. It was an interfaith ceremony with Father Camp and the Rabbi Applestone. The cocktail hour had lots of food. The fajita bar was great as was the frozen drinks. One thing that annoyed the bride and groom was the bartenders all had tip cups out. The 18% service charge they paid was to cover that all. Anyhow....
Florist was Flowers by Matthew - gorgeous!! Beautiful, full, fresh roses. We took home one of the centerpieces. It is so pretty!!
The band was Phenominal. The Ken James Orchestra rocked the house. They were a 10 piece band, and I said to my hubby if we were still looking into book a band, this one would be it, hands down. Fantastic. However, we hear they were very pricey!! You get what you pay for though in this case.
They used Marty from Martin Willard Photography (Wedding Magic). You hardly even knew he was there.
There was a problem with the video guy though. I can't remember the name of the company they booked with, but I've never heard it mentioned on these boards. He was supposed to arrive at the brides house at 3 p.m. and never showed. Nor did he call. When the father called the company, they learned he had been in an accident. They said he was supposed to be there shortly. He never made it to the brides house and showed finally at the WCC at 6:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. ceremony start!! Thank God the ceremony had been delayed so he made it for the start. But not after giving the bride and groom something to stress over.
The service at the WCC was a little sporatic. They did refill glasses quickly and cleared tables and such. The food was so-so. We didn't think it was as hot as it could've been (my mashed ptatoes were cold!). But it was fine. We both had the Chateau Briand - the chicken and fish selections looked good, but no one raved about them. The vienesse hour was great, but total chaos as 200+ people rushed to get dessert. The wedding cake was not served either, you had to go up and get a piece yourself.
Overall, despite the rain, we had a really fantastic time. The bride and groom were just glowing.... We are very happy for them. I know they put a lot of hard work and money into the affair and it showed.
Oh, and they booked rooms at the Inn at Fox Hollow. Very nice, but we live nearby so we didn't stay. But the rooms were nice and had little kitchenettes in them.
I think given the bad weather, the WCC did a nice job accomodating and shifting things last minute. However, they need to work on valet parking. That was just horrible and an accident waiting to happen. It really is a gorgeous place and would've been nice for pictures had it not been raining!! '
The bride and groom are off to St. Lucia - I am jealous!!

Thanks for the review. It is good to get good opinions as well as not so good, that is not to say that anyone getting married at WCC will have the same problems. Prehaps it was a bad day for WCC. Thanks for the input.

Florist is located on N. Wantagh Ave in Bethpage.Oh, and I think the WCC did a great job... There were little things that happened, but overall I wouldn't say it was a bad day - just 2 to 3 events going on and a lot of shuffling around because they ceremony's were supposed to be outdoors. Any WCC bride should be confident in their decision, I hope that my review helps them make these situations improved upon.
Father Camp and Rabbi Applestone were selected separately, I believe. They did a nice job together though.
