A Strange Moment

Original post by MonkeyLuv

My lips were feeling a little chapped, so I say to myself, 'Self, why don't you get that little pink pot of lip balm from your purse and slather some on.' I retrieve the pot of much-needed lip balm, open it and prepare to load my right ring finger with sweet relief, when my mind comes to a screeching halt.

I got a papercut on the tip my right ring finger this morning and had to put a band-aid on it. I can't use it for my pot of lip balm!! It actually crossed my mind to just put it away and not bother! Then I almost couldn't figure out how to apply it without the use of that digit. And I'm such a spaz, I almost couldn't make my right index finger function with enough dexterity to slop some balm on my parched lips!!

It was such a bizarre and zen moment. Like trying to do things with your left hand if you're right-handed.

the thing with my pinkies is this...
When I eat a large sandwhich or burger or anything that comes between two pieces of bread I always prop the end of it up with my pinkies! I've got the burger in both hands...the thumbs underneath, the index, middle and ring fingers on top and the pinkies underneath, supporting the end!

My sisters tease me about it mercilessly!

Ok, that's fine for a girl to do the pinkie-support move, but DH does it too! I've never said anything because I can only imagine how it might damage his fragile self esteem. No wait, that's me. DH could give a rat's a$$ if I make fun of him

As for the proper finger to use for digging lip balm out of those little pots..... for me, it's not a finger, but a knuckle! Long nails prevent me from using my fingers (unless I want to dig the balm out from underneath my nails and THEN put it on. Ew.) So I use the knuckle of my 2nd finger to scoop.

The sad thing is that each time you describe a hand movement, I sit here at my desk attempting it! I have no idea how you comfortably hold a sandwich that way!

First... about mimicking my hand gestures!!!
Second... that's exactly what my sisters say! I can't explain it....it just is! It also prevents things from sliding out the other side!

Ah, so it serves a useful purpose...in that case it makes perfect sense to me!

YAY for NIBLETS and SWEETIES!!!

I'm going to have to do some field tests, but I believe I use my right middle finger as a lip balm applying implement.

That is PRECISELY why I stick to my Burts Bees in a tube! No need to get lips AND fingers all greasy!

But I have strange lip balm-putting-on story to add...DH always presses his lips together first (so that they're almost entirely inside his mouth!) AND THEN puts the stuff on his lips! I keep telling him, do you realize that you're not doing anything at all for your lips???? Sure, the area surrounding your mouth is perfectly hydrated, but your lips are crustier than the cast of Alive!

Just another of the reasons why I love him so *sigh*
