OK girls... I am going dress shopping at the end of the month. Please give me names of places that you have gone that have larger size dresses.

I am a street size 16-18 and I could put on every dress i wanted to try on at Lilletes in Baldwin. They were super nice and I was pleased. I also went to Davids and Beautiful bride in Lynbrook. BB I wasn't happy with, they say they have bigger dresses, but two of of the five I cuoldn't get on at all...the lady held them up to me..... like that does anything

DAvid's had a huge selection, but make sure you are willing to wait and make an appointment!

Newlywed crashing....I'm selling my crinoline slip if anyone is looking for one. It's ballgown with a hook and eye and zipper closure. It is a size 20, I wear a street size 16/18.
I only wore the slip while we were taking pictures so it's in almost brand new condition.

Lillette's!!

They were sooo helpful and they had a pretty good selection.

I know a lot of the regular dresses in most stores all were in size 8-10... I tried (or attempted to try) on a couple of those and it was very very difficult to imagine what it would look like.

I remember you saying that and I am going to go there during my easter recess from work.

i am going to be stuck up in the huntington area for a while next week and thought to kill time i would check there, just want to know if it was worth it.

Doesn't hurt to try it out. Can also do a search on this site. Just because you are trying on doesn't mean you have to buy. Also, BARGAIN. I did and saved a LOT on my dress. Felt really good about that. Good to get multiple prices for your dress so you have something to work with.

Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Hi ladies,

I just bought my dress in Paradise Bridal out in Patchogue. It was a little big of a drive for me, but so worth it. they had a big selection of plus size dresses and the woman helping me was fantastic. never did she make me feel bad about my weight. she knew what styles i liked and helped me find 'the one'.

i had gone to another bridal shop and trying to get into some dresses was not much fun.

paradise bridal had a great selection and some were even big on me (which was a complete shock). I'm a street size 22 and by no means was i going to fit into a bridal 8.

I definitely recommend giving this place a chance.

Yey I love this thread

I notice a few people saying 'street size'-- Do people usually wear bigger gowns than regular clothes? I'm a 22/24 (in pants, slightly smaller in shirts)- what size dresses should I be asking for when I go in?

you are usually a few sizes bigger in bridal clothing (BM dresses and wedding gowns).

They actually ordered my dress 4 sizes bigger than i usually wear. Apparently I was in between 3 and 4 sizes bigger, but we opted for the bigger size because it's easier to take in, then to let it out.

when you go to try on gowns, they will stuff you into any gown you want. paradise just happens to have a larger selection of plus size gowns.

I'm a size 24 in pants. I tried on a size 24 Alfred Angelo dress and it was too big. They ordered a size 22 and it fit perfectly

Are you going by your measurements or did you try on the dress? I was lucky enough to try on the dress in a size 24. So, I could see that it was too big for me.

i tried it on in a 24 and it was slightly snug in the waist, but not too much
