A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Hey guys

Sorry I've been incommunicato this week. Just been very busy. How is everyone? What's doing?

I had my second fitting on Wednesday. It was very nneventful. Apparently the seamstress who pinned it 2 weeks ago wasn't sure of what she did, so they didn't cut anything and just left the pins in for when I came in yesterday. So yesterday the head seamstress was there and did all the pinning and measuring. Problem is, the next available appointment is set for Tuesday, October 12th which is much closer to the wedding if there are additional alterations needed. I'm not that worried, but it was just a waste of time.

Last night FH and I sat in front of the TV and finished putting bows on all the little bells for the guests to ring after the ceremony. 200 bells -- what a pain in the ***.

Our RSVPs are trickling in -- we've only received about half back and our RSVP date is October 4th. I hope these people wake up next week or I'll be making quite a few phone calls.

This weekend I'm going to my friends wedding at The Vanderbilt Mansion in Oakdale. I can't wait -- it should be fun!

Hi amy! My RSVP date is the same - and I am having the same problems! I've read everyone's posts about sending the RSVP back - and always thought to myself -- nah - MY friends and family won't do that to me!!!
Boy was I in for a surprize!

I go for my second fitting on 9/30. So far so good! I am still looking for a bra or corset to wear .. any suggestions? I obviously need to have it by next week!

But on an up note - I had my hair trial with Jen from Hair Genie on Wednesday .. she is great and mostly got what I was trying to do. There's a few changes I'll make on the real day.

Happy Friday !!

Hi all ...

Just a quickie question. My FH informs me that altho we are not doing the garter toss... he expects me to be wearing one.

So -- where does one find a garter that will fit on plus size leg (above the knee)??!

I was thinking maybe I should attempt to make it myself? How hard could it be?

Thanks!

I was successful at Miriam's in East Meadow. Other people highly recommend Mary's in Woodbury (or Hicksville?), not sure.

Do you have pictures from your hair trial?

The garter I have fits over my knee, and sits low on my thigh. Have you tried a regular size one on? It might not be so bad. I haven't found any plus size garters out there. Keep us posted if you find any!

Hi Ladies!

I'm a plus sized bride coming out the plus-sized closet!

Can anyone recommend a good girdle???? Does it really make a difference? They look sooo uncomfortable!

they really arent oo bad once you get use to them - i would recommend getting a few different kinds - at least 2 or 3 then wearing it to work - that is what i did i figure if it can make it through a whole day moving around at work it will be able to handle the wedding easy - i found one after 3 tries
good luck

Daisy-

I'll be honest, I tried on the thigh highs with the dress and I couldn't stand them after 6 mintues of wearing them. They were very uncomfortable. Other brides have had better experiences with them. I got the silk ones at Macy's for $6.50. The price was good but the comfort wasn't there. I think I'm going to go for knee highs because I hate pantyhose!!! GL trying to find some.

Another vote against the thigh highs. Now I'm in search of white knee highs. Lane Bryant the store did not have them last week when I was there.

I think I'm going w/o stockings. Between the girdle and the corsette contraption I'm wearing, I can't handle anything more. Plus when my legs rub together with stockings....it's just about the worst feeling in the world. Maybe I should try thigh highs...

Just wanted to say thanks to all who mentioned Georgette's for a long line bra, they were the nicest women EVER who squeezed the charmin. I couldn't believe how comfortable I was there, they even convinced me to buy a regular bra when they showed me awful my bra actually made me look.

Have you thought about a wrap or a bolero jacket? If you don't have a dress yet -- try to find one that is off the shoulder.. it breaks up the line so that your arms are not so obvious.

My dress (while not entirely strapless) doesn't have sleeves either. I am not happy with the way my arms look ... but what can you do? I am going to use a shawl that my grandmother brought back from Spain years and years ago. Covers my arms... and also remembers my gramma... which makes me happy/sad. I'll see if I can take a pic of it.

I am going with Knee Highs....after getting my long line bra and uncomfortable super slimmming underwear, there is NO WAY I will wear wtockings or thigh highs!!! ITs too hot under that dress as it is!!!!!!!!!!! The underwear, long line, and slip are enough to make me not wanna be in my dress!!!!!!! But, it does look Beautiful, if I must say myself!! The stuff I got makes me nice and smooth and sucks me right in!

Hello my lovely ladies!!!

QUESTION.....I need a nice top (I'm big chested) for the Rehearsal dinner, I'm looking for something with bell sleeves. Do you have any stores that will carry those? I'm in Suffolk County.

How was everyone's weekend? I finished the bows on the bells (I noticed you did too Amy ).

Working on place cards now. I can't believe October is Friday....it came too quick.

Try Macy's Roosevelt Field. That's where I got my outfit for my shower. The Avenue also has some pretty Fall stuff out -- something like this might be pretty:

I wore knee highs for my wedding. I hate stockings to begin with so there was no way I would wear them under my dress with all the other layers I had. I took them off during the reception and changed shoes. I was very comfy.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I'm definetly doing the knee-high thing. I wore them last weekend to a wedding and it made my shoes very comfy. This past Sunday going to a different wedding, same outfit, I skipped them because it was such a nice day. I am regretting that decision today -- I danced the whole night and am no suffering from blisters on BOTH feet.

For the newbies that just joined the board, someone recommended deodorant/antiperspirent solid for your inner thighs -- it really helps! I do it ALL the time now. It stays on better than powder, makes less of a mess and lasts longer.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Hey girls...here's a story for you:

FH's first cousin called and asked if her daughter (who is 21) could come to the wedding with her boyfriend.

She was not invited because FH has 26 first cousins alone, so our cut-off for his side of the list was aunts, uncles and first cousins.

I feel bad saying no, and it probably wouldn't be a problem if she came, but it potentially opens up a whole can of worms with all the other cousins kids that we DID NOT invite.

*sigh*

Here I am thinking we're good on 'no's' and now we have people inviting other people.

Anyway, I'm almost done with my shower Thank Yous! Thank god!

What's doing with everyone else?
