hi! i love this thread! i love when it gets bumped!
just wanted to say please do not be scared to go dress shopping! i was so scared and really put it off but it was great fun and i never thought twice about my size! i went to david's bridal first just to see what it was like to have on a wedding dress but their customer service was horrible and i didn't feel like a 'bride' there (just my opinion). i called around to a few places to see if they had plus size sample sizes and ended up going to lillette's where i found my dress!
i agree that you should try on things you wouldn't normally gravitate to....i almost refused to try on my dress but then did and LOVED it!
it will be fun! no worries!

My cousin is going to make mine. I actually found a DIY online and it looked pretty easy. But she has her own craft company so she'll do it for me.
My mum brought me back one from the UK and it was so tight my leg from the thigh down would have died and fallen off.

I plan on getting mine from this companyhttp://www.gartersbygingersnap.com/index.html
They can custom make it to your size. We love the Yankees and Giants so I'm getting the sports combo one. Think torrid has them too but can't remember. I actually did a google search and found a few sites that have plus size garters.
ETA: I also considered using this sitehttp://www.stockingstore.com/plus-sized-garter-belts-s/56.htm

Have had this website marked because I have also considered making it myselfhttp://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cr_wedding/article/0,,DIY_13783_2269580,00.htm

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I think I just HATE shopping in general. I'm basically at my heaviest weight in my life and don't feel ready for this. Think I'm just gonna have to start walking and eating better. Give myself 6 months to drop some weight before I go shopping. Just afraid even the largest samples won't fit.

i feel the same way about shopping--even though i do it alot, i rarely enjoy it! if you start walking and eating a little better, you will see a change. i'm starting to do the same thing! but don't put pressure on yourself--no matter what weight you are, you will find a dress perfect for you! as far as trying on the sample sizes--i tried on one dress that was a size 10 and i haven't been that size in about 15 years!!! the sales women can work wonders with those dress clips!
good luck!

Yes, i've hear about these magical clips
I just have to remember that FH is marrying me no matter what I look like because he loves me unconditionally. I guess when you look in magazines and ads, I don't see anyone like me......never pictured myself as a bride this weight. Just gotta get over it and have fun like you said.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Hello. Thanks for the return FM regarding your dress. I actually found 2 local stores that carry Bonny so I'm pretty psyched. Fell in love with the line and can see myself in many of the dresses.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
i went to davids and found the perfect dress for me they have a ton of bigger dresses too
i sugest looking online first though and picking out a few and going in with a list or crab a catalog and post it the pages of the ones you want to try.
I actually never noticed the one i ended up with untill i saw it on another girl and loved it. I went back and tried it on and that was it I ordered it. They come in fairly quickly too

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
i got my dress at Davids too-- i worked with a really nice ladie-- i went on a turesday nite and wow there was really no one there and she pulled about 6 dresses for me (ones that i picked over the puter and then an extra one (one that i really did not like in the photos) wouldn't you know it that was the dress i ordered that nite sometimes photos just do not do the dress any justice!!
be open minded about all dresses you just might be suprised with what you walk out with.
I love this thread too!!
happy shopping ladies
edit for spelling--

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
A lot of people have mentioned David's Bridal, but that their customer service stinks. I've seen Angel Bridal and Paradise Bridal mentioned a lot when it comes to plus size samples.
It's funny, I have an idea of what I want, but more and more people say they go in with one idea then the sales girl brings out a dress they wouldn't have even considered and it's the 'one'.
I went to Fantasia Bridal for a BM dress and I have to say their seamstress was amazing. I'm also considering going there. Gonna hit a few places to get a feel for each and go from there.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
I did a PLUS SIZE BRIDE (just type in plus size in the search area) spot for LiWeddingsTV last year and we filmed it at Bridal Elegance. They had a lot of gowns in my size range 18/20 and up to try on. I would go there.
But ultimatly I bought my dress at Helen's at Wedding World in Commack.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
I do have a question... My sister is aplus size with a very large chest. She is my MOH & i want her to be comfortable & happy in the dress she is wearing that day! She has been dieting & has lost 32lbs! IM SO PROUD OF HER! I love her in any case. So my question is if you have any plus size BM's where did you purchase their dresses? I know all dresses today come in plus sizes but lets face it the shops still only carry up to 14. They hardly ever carry a 18/20 and i want my sister to see what sh look like in it. CAN ANYONE HELP????
PS> we have tried Davids Bridal the didnt have anything we iked.
