A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Original post by aimerliny

I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.

Anyone interested?

I don't know if I could wear a corset all day. Know FH would love it though. Has been asking me to get one for while.

hi girls!!! shockingly enough I bought my dress at Davids even with their disgraceful customer service

I went hoping to try a few styles (NOTHING Strapless or puffy) and I walked out with a strapless dress with all pick ups. But I LOVE IT on!

I love this thread by the way.

Petrified of strapless!!! Don't think I can pull it off but guess I shouldn't count it out.

Not only are my arms an issue but I have a large tattoo on my back that some will find inappropriate. I'm just going to have to go in with an open mind and see how it goes.

I was absolutely positive that I wanted long sleeves and that strapless would be hideous on me...I'm 43, plus-size, Irish pale (with a January/winter wedding no less) and I was surprised at how many strapless gowns not only looked good but actually flattered my figure. Girls, let them pick out some dresses for you and definitely go into it with an open mind. I was surprised at what styles I ended up drawn to as opposed to what I thought I wanted. I found that the Alfred Angelo gowns were in the stores at larger sizes and were very pretty (I almost chose one!). Also, a lot of Maggie Sottero gowns (I wore one) have corsets which allow you leeway to gain and lose...just tie it tighter or loosen it. I actually tried on a size 12 (Maggies run small, too) because the woman gave me a good longline bra and it had a corset...it gives you a general idea on how it will look on you. And lastly, keep in mind that your FH is going to be blown away no matter what you choose and no matter what you THINK you will look like. You will be a princess on your day, I promise you!

I absolutely love your dress! Love the corset look. Definitely think that is a must with my dress. And like you said, at least you have some play with it.

I haven't been anywhere yet, but I did wanna hit David's to shock me into toning up and losing weight. What did you think of David's? Which one did you go to?

I guess just the 4 so far. Back in the day it looks like this was the thread of all threads. Bet we could bring it back to its former glory cause I have to admit, i often feel alone out there when it comes to this wedding stuff. Have a lot of concerns I don't think other brides on her have.

yeah i know how you feel. i was really nervous to go dress shopping, but it was a lot of fun! david's has a lot of plus size dresses, i went to the one in westbury.. the people that work there are OK, just go during the week when they aren't busy. i don't know about you, but nothing had sleeves-which i want, i know that some of the dresses can have sleeves added, so i am going to go back and only try on those dresses. honestly, if you get one of those long line bras you'll be amazed how beautiful you're gonna look in your dress! everything was flattering and looked great, it wasn't scary at all!
