A long bra? Never worn one. Everyone keeps talking about spanx. Thinking of investing in a pair before I go out dress shopping. I just hate wearing anything that confines me. HATED wearing girdles during prom. Felt like i was going to explode if i ate anything.

I NEED sleeves. Nothing exists out there. Thinking i'll hit up David's to see what styles I like then go to another bridal shop with a good seamstress that could put sleeves on a sleeveless dress. Would even consider a bolo jacket if it looked right. I just can't go sleeveless.

my biggest issue is i'm a 26/28 street so finding a dress is going to be impossible for me i think. i really want to get down to a 22/24 for the wedding. that would be a dream come true when going dress shopping.

I understand. I've found many shops online with beautiful dresses, but I'm just not trying to by a dress for thousands of dollars to only wear once. I really want to two dresses for under $500 each. There is a store in NC that you can buy their dresses, so iIm thinking just to try on the one in NY so I will know my correct size.

i agree. i cannot afford an expensive dress. I've also considered finding out the right size and then ordering it online but i'm afraid of getting screwed. loved the seamstress at Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point, but they aren't cheap there. Should be interesting when it comes time to buy the dress.

You are not alone, I think as we all planning our weddings, we should let everyone know about online, dress shops, and seamstresses. There has to be more options out there. They might not be LIW vendors but we have to band together.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Hello fellow plus size ladies.

I just joined Weight Watchers, but I'm pretty sure I'll always be a plus size girl. But I am trying to get healthier.

It's pretty much a given I'll need a plus size wedding dress. I gave up dress shopping until December when, I hope, I will have lost at leat 10-15 lbs. My problem was that I went dress shopping with my size-8 sister, who is also getting married. So, it was a bit disheartening to see all the sample sizes fit her almost perfectly, while I couldn't get alot of them over my hips.

But, I really like the Alfred Angelo and Maggie Sottero gowns.

Originally I thought because I am so big that I wanted a dress with long bell sleeves, like something renaissance looking. But when I tried those on it actually called attention to my arms and made me look 10 times worse.

Since I am tall I am going with a strapless. I'm a big girl but I have a modest bust so I don't think I will need any straps.

check out this ebay store, they have plus size bridal shrugs/jackets and they're really beautiful. i am thinking of getting a strapless dress with one of these lace short sleeve jackets.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Hello ladies,

My advice: call shops and ask if they have plus-size samples. I did this and found that some stores do offer a greater selection of samples.

I got to try many dresses in my size before making that all-important decision.

Good luck to you all and please don't be so hung up on your weight. You'll all be amazing on your respective days. Remember, it should be about health, not a number on a scale. And also, don't be afraid of dress sizes as any dress will be tailored specifically for you!

As Linda mentioned, try on things you wouldn't expect to like - I did and found my dream dress!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I am very top heavy, even when I was a size 8 I was wear 36DD. I have a booty that can match many of those girls in the music video. Now I am 18-20 in street clothes. Breast size 44 F, so I would like to pretty and sexy for FH. Since he loves the girls. I like the dresses with a v-neck because I really would like to wear a bra to hold them up. Is anyone having that problem or I'm standing alone.
