A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Original post by aimerliny

I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.

Anyone interested?

I haven't been anywhere yet, but I did wanna hit David's to shock me into toning up and losing weight. What did you think of David's? Which one did you go to?

I went to David's to buy my dress. I went to the one in Lake Grove and they were VERY nice there. Nothing like trying on a pretty white dress to shock you into losing weight. Here I am, two months before I'm supposed to get married thinking that I'm going to lose 20 lbs. Prolly NOT gonna happen.

Hi everyone, I'm a size 14 i know im not plus size but trust me i feel your woes. People ask me oh have you tried dresses on yet and i just say no if they only knew that i was scared to death to try dresses on and feel bad when the dress i want fits horribly. I'm on WW and haven't lost much. I recently bought Alli and im going to start taking it this Friday because some of the effects are bad, like you have to run to the bathroom lol. I know RK bridal in Manhattan has alot of gorgeous dresses and i believe they have all sizes and also i believe 1385 Broadway The Bridal buidling is filled with bridal stores so i'll probably go there to find my dress. I hate these magazines that show these teeny tiny girls they need to have more full figured woman to show how Real women look....ugh!!!

Hello ladies,

My advice: call shops and ask if they have plus-size samples. I did this and found that some stores do offer a greater selection of samples.

I got to try many dresses in my size before making that all-important decision.

Good luck to you all and please don't be so hung up on your weight. You'll all be amazing on your respective days. Remember, it should be about health, not a number on a scale. And also, don't be afraid of dress sizes as any dress will be tailored specifically for you!

As Linda mentioned, try on things you wouldn't expect to like - I did and found my dream dress!

Here are a few pictures from our wedding:

Thanks so much on your feedback as someone who's been there. Everyone keeps saying keep my mind open to all dresses cause a lot of people have walked out with dresses they swore they'd never wear.

Danielle, does that bra shop you were talking about sell custom bras? Or do they just have plus size bras? I'm a size 4 but wear a 34 DDD bra...do you think they would have something for me??

Yes, mine was a Maggie Sottero dress (Grace Kelly) and I am a plus size. You may not find too many plus size sample dresses to try on, but you can buy them in a plus size. I tried on a size 12 at Bridal Suite in Bay Shore even though I'm definitely not a 12. It had a corset back, so I was able to get it on and see what it would look like.
