I've heard that it acceptable to give a wedding gift up to a year after the wedding. I'm wondering if any past brides had people come to their wedding w/out a gift and then send one within that timeframe?
We had 2 couples come to our wedding who didn't bring gifts. And then another couple who RSVP'd and then didn't show up. That couple asked for our address right away and they still have not sent anything. It's been almost 2 months.
Am I being petty? Should I just accept that these ppl probably will not be giving us a wedding gift?
And then, what do I write in the thank you card?

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
We got a few gifts in the mail the month after our wedding. We are approaching our one year mark and there are people who we did not receive gifts from...remember a wedding gift is not required nice but not mandatory.
In your thank you card thank the person for sharing your special day.

It would upset me too! But I did hear the same thing..but I personally think it's bull b/c i'm not permitted to pay off my RH and vendors over the course of a year following my wedding!
I would just put Thank you for coming or Thank you for sharing our special day.

I wouldn't be too optimistic. My boss invited a few girls from work and one of them came with a date didnt bring a gift or $$ gift....then post wedding told my boss WHY she didnt bring it and told her what she got her AND NOW its 1 year post wedding and no gift...i dont know how this girl faces off to my boss every day....such an embarassement and something you'll remember forever.

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
Wow.......A YEAR?!?!? I've never heard of that. I think the acceptable time frame for sending out 'Thank You's' is a month (according to Ms. Emily Post. Do we still listen to her? LOL) With that said, so should the timeline of sending of gifts go. And the one's who RSVP'd and didn't show......that's just wrong.
But a year after for a gift IMO is unacceptable. Especially because if they had given a gift at the wedding and received a thank you a year later, they would probably have a fit.

OK, so don't flame me here ladies, but I am totally guilty of this. My friend eloped, and then had a party on LI about 6 months later to celebrate. I wasn't invited to the elopment, clearly, but I couldn't make it to the party. I totally meant to send a gift immediately, got their new address and everything and totally space out on it. I sent it a couple months later when I remembered, and apologized profusely to my friend for it. He understood, and I guess technically the traditional etiquitte says you have a year. Don't freak yet, have some faith

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
The most annoying part is we just saw the no-show couple last weekend at a party and the wife told me she just sent out our gift last week. It doesn't take 2 weeks to send anything, so it was an obvious lie. I don't even care about the gift at this point, it's just the principal of it. I paid for their plates, they didn't show up and now she's lying to us about sending a gift.

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but you're not inviting people to come with you to Applebees. You're hosting a party. This is why you're not supposed to throw an event in anticipation of receiving gifts, the point of the gift is not to act as the guests payment for their check for dinner. Gifts are nice, but they're 'Gifts' not requirements.

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
yeah we're approaching the 2-month mark and still waiting on 3 people who were no gifters...
there are also a handful of people who couldn't make it who asked about our registry, etc. right after the wedding but haven't sent anything yet
not holding my breath on anyone. people are so rude.

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
Honestly in this day of age i think it is expected that ppl bring a gift to a wedding... i wouldnt count what is in the envelope or be mad about what I got but I def think that it is ok to expect a gift.. anyone who says they wouldnt be upset to not receive one probably was never put in that situation.. its not about covering your cost per plate.. its about your guests being courtious and doing the right thing.. i agree with the above comment.. after a couple months i definitely wouldnt be waiting for a gift..

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
I cant even imagine going to ANY party without a gift. That is just sooo rude. I mean even if I go to someone house for their birthday, I at leats have a card with some scratch offs in them.. Just so I'm not completely empty handed. I am however guilty of not sending/giving a gift if I respond NO to a wedding. Usually if I respond NO it's because I couldnt afford to go.

I received a gift 8 months after the wedding. I didn't even expect one from this person, but I received it and promptly sent her a second thank you card (since I'd already sent her the wedding one thanking her for coming).

Exactly! It's not about making money or anything, it's just about being curtious. At our wedding we had one no gifter and a few couples that gave a ridiculous amount We also had a few people RSVP yes then couldn't make it that said they would send a gift. 3 weeks later....nada. It's not like I'm counting on their money, I just think it's rude to say you are going to send something if you're not.

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
We have over 30 people who came to our wedding and didn't give us a gift. Yes, we have gotten a few gifts in the last few days, but I am totally not banking on getting them from everyone. Oh well!! I didn't get married for the gifts, luckily.

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
I am in a weird situation.... my cousins wife emailed me after we got back from the HM to say she had our card in her pocketbook but when they left the wedding she forgot to give it to us. She apologized and said that she was going to mail it out. That was in May but we never received anything. These are nice people and all so I dont think she is lying or anything. However, I am now about to send out thank you cards and I dunno what to write! 'thank you for sharing our special day' and thats it? lol I mean im not gonna ask her about it cuz thats just weird...like Im pestering you for our wedding gift lol Hmmmmm.......

Re: a year after the wedding to give a gift?
It's true, we did get much larger than expected gifts from alot of people and we also received gifts from ppl who RSVP'd no, and also from some ppl who weren't even invited (friends of our parents). So the amount of the gift is not the issue here. And brides who say 'gifts are not required'... Gimme a break!
It is extremely rude to go to a party empty-handed. I don't even go to someone's house for dinner without bringing a bottle of wine, or a box of cookies! To not even give a card is unacceptable. And to tell someone you sent a gift when you didn't just makes it worse.

this is weird bc theres always that small teeny chance that it got lost in the mail..however ne1 would no to send a check n b waiting 4 it to b cashed ..they most likely r hoping u forgot at this point or maybe 4got to mail it 4 real...maybe u writing thnx 4 sharing our day will remind them haha
