AAARGH! Pregnant BM's????

Original post by neesiepie

My cousin in FL. who is a BM in my wedding has advised me that she 'might' be pregnant cause she forgot to take her pill....but if she isn't, she's planning on conceiving in May so she is only 4 months pregnant at my wedding.

Then she emails me today to tell me she's not pregnant, and I quote:
....'It would have been great to bring our daughter or son to your wedding. But what will be will be. We'll just have to wait until the summer to start trying'

My OTHER Bm in Florida has also advised me she is trying to get pregnant and if she is 8 mos pregant in september, she isnt coming to my wedding....but not to worry....if she gets pregnant NOW, she'll just bring her 11-month old.....AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

My friend since a child said when i asked her if she would be my bridesmaid that she may be pregnant at the time and that if I didn't want her to be in my bp that it would be OK.. I told her that I didn't mind one bit.. I don't care if she was I told her I thought it would be wonderful if she became pregnant and that we've been friends for almost 20 years.. what better way to tell stories to her child when he/she gets older that they were in my wedding party as well. And FH also thinks pregnant women are beautiful so he doesn't care either.. We've always dreamed about being in each others weddings, what's the big deal if she has a big belly?

Something else to consider when discussing this---if I have 5 bridemaids, then each of my bridesmaids has, on average, something like that of her own. In other words, it's not just me--she's got tons of friends and family to consider--weeks worth of sacred dates. With engagements drawn out as obnoxiously long as they are today (1 year, 2 years-more), and 5 or thereabouts girls to either give a 'heads up' to or work around, as their temperment may dictate, and pregnancy, as someone wisely said, not easy to attain for some, what are you supposed to do? Adjust by a year and a half--three years? Be 30 instead of 27? 32 instead of 29? Geesh.

Personally. when I decide to have children, it will be between me and FH until I'm ready to share, which will likely be (well) after we've succeeded in getting me preggo. A real friend would respect my privacy/secrecy/nervousness, or whatever may keep me from divulging private intimate dreams/struggles, and understand that asking someone to be a BM is supposed to be an honor, not a stressor or heartache. To me, when my friends agreed to walk down the aisle with me, I understood that it was a genuine intent, not some blood oath that was supposed to keep them away from a relative's death bed, ...or their chosen time for the birth of their child. My ceremony could, if joy came to me and a dear pregnant friend at the same time, occur without any one person (except FH), but my dearest friends' lives and plans cannot go on without them carrying out their plans if I selfishly put the brakes on. To me, that's loving your friends.JMO.

I think you hit thenail on the head with this post. This is what friendship is all about. A wedding will come and go, but a HUMAN LIFE is something that will around for a LONG time.
I think you make an excellent point. I agree 100% with you!!
