about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...and other questions
for those that have read it - what did you think about the part that explaining how you could try to determine the sex of your baby based on when you had sex?
have any of you tested that theory?
also, for those of you that got pregnant without charting, ov. tests. etc - did you do anything special other than not use birth control and go at it?
I'm just trying to get a feel for how often conception just happens without special timing... When the time comes, I don't want to make getting pregnant a process (if I can avoid it).
(not trying, and not ready - just getting educated)

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
A friend of mine had a son and wanted a daughter. She read EVERY book imaginable on the sex selection, and just gave birth to a baby girl about 3 weeks ago. She SWEARS she chose the sex of her baby by timing 'the deed' a few days before ovulation. I'm not sure I buy the theory, but she has 2 beautiful kids, so who cares.

I guess I feel like its better left up to fate, but I'm intrigued at the possibility of it actually working.
I could see people trying it in some situations (like my cousin who has 2 gorgeous boys and went for #3 to get a girl. But its gonna be another boy. I wonder if she had known about this, if they would've tried it). My parents on the other hand, got 3 girls (but they couldn't have tried for a boy for #3, since they weren't planning on a 3rd at all )

my sil read the book and swears they did everything right to have a girl and they gave me another nephew so i dont know what they did wrong. i'd rather get what i get than try to control it but thats just me. nor could i be bothered with the research and planning of trying to conceive a specific gender. either way a baby is a gift from God
good luck

Elizabeth - you hit the nail on the head. I don't want to go through the process of planning/timing the conception let alone the sex of the baby. I just want it to happen when it happens (hopefully).

They say if your planning a girl, you should do the deed a few days before ovulation because the female sperm live longer. If your looking for a boy, they say to do the deed on the day of ovulation because they're quicker and will beat the female sperm to the egg. I don’t think we'll try this method. I agree it's better left up to fate. Shamma's right - too much planning will kill the joy of babymaking!

exactly Shamma!
but TCOYF is all about planning and charting. It was interesting to read and I did learn things but I don't think its right for me. I can see how it would be very helpful if you were having problems conceiving.

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
I read TCOYF, and since I never ovulated, it didn't help me a bit. I also wanted to have a baby whenever it happened... all that charting seemed too time consuming, and I figured we had plenty of time. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do things that way, and I can tell you with MUCH certainty that timing DOES kill the mood. I hope this isn't TMI, but on the night my lima bean was conceived, I remember saying 'Okay, there's 20 minutes till Seinfeld. Think we can get this over with in time??' Passion, nope. Success?? YEP!

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
Elizabeth, Anna, Niha, other moms or moms to be - how'd you get pregnant? I mean I know HOW, but did you use any timing techniques? predictor tests, etc? or did it just happen?

JennRenee - I'm confused. Didn't you do IUI? But you didn't concieve from that?
My friend is going through this now - she's on clomid (she also doesn't ovulate) and I think her second IUI cycle.

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
I don't have the baby itch yet, but so many of my friends are trying or have babies. I feel like I should be more educated on the subject. And have realistic expectations, so when we are ready, we know what we're in for. Al saw I was reading TCOYF and was like 'WHY are you reading THAT?!

Lisa, I am glad you got this going b/c I have questions galore.
If an egg is realeased and it does not get to meet with a sperm and make a baby what happens to it, does it gets wasted??? I know us women are born with our eggs and if they are being released will we not run out of eggs soon.
