about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...and other questions
Original post by LisaT
for those that have read it - what did you think about the part that explaining how you could try to determine the sex of your baby based on when you had sex?
have any of you tested that theory?
also, for those of you that got pregnant without charting, ov. tests. etc - did you do anything special other than not use birth control and go at it?
I'm just trying to get a feel for how often conception just happens without special timing... When the time comes, I don't want to make getting pregnant a process (if I can avoid it).
(not trying, and not ready - just getting educated)

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
I have a lot of learning to do. So for ladies like me that are on BCP, my eggs are not being released and being wasted, correct?? That is why my Dr said when we are ready to try I should stop 2 mos before?? so that I can start releasing again...right?? See back in the days our parents just did it and they conceived not all this technology and thinking about and planning and charting

Shamma, the hormones in our bodies help us produce eggs every month. If there is no fertilization I believe the excess (egg, lining, etc) is shed every month with AF.

So how many eggs do we have?? I do not think we are making new eggs every month?? Wait until we are really ready to start my Dr is going to go mad, especially after I read all my books...Lord help him, he might recommend that I go to someone else.

you are born with all the eggs in your ovaries that you'll ever have. They're not produced each month in the sense of being created, only released.
But you're not likely to run out!

How can I be so sure, with all this ovulating going on and sperms running to and fro, you never know you have to be careful. Now Lisa you now I am being silly in this response.

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
this should put you at ease:
All of the eggs that the women has throughout her life are made before she is born. By the time that the fetus has been growing for six months about 3.5 million eggs are found in each ovary. Two thirds of these eggs are destroyed in the last three months of foetal life. Most of the remaining 1 million eggs in each ovary are slowly destroyed throughout life until only 1000 remain at the average age of the menopause at 50 years. Only a minute proportion of eggs are used in ovulation.

Thats interesting. Shows how much I know and I've been TTC for a year. Better drag out the TCOYF book again

Lisa,
I was scheduled for an IUI, but we wanted to give it one last try with just the RE monitoring my ovulation, and it worked.

I'm in the same boat Lisa - I bought that book a few mths ago and found it very interesting. It's a slow read, for me at least, but it's interesting. I thought the whole section on CM was a little TMI for me! Analyzing the texture and everything? I still have the second half to finish.
I was amazed at how ignorant I was with the whole process - aside from learning the basics in school and just knowing your body. When you learn all that's needed to orchestrate fertilization, you realize what a precious gift it really is when it happens

I read that too about the timing and sex. I know exactly when I conceived prior to ovulation, so when the baby comes out, I'll let you know!

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
how do you know exactly when you conceived? I wondered that from JennRenee's post too - how do you know which time was THE time that did it?

I knew because my dr. told us to go home and do the deed, so we did.

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
Well, in my case we only DTD 2x during my fertile week (based on OPK, cervical mucus and temps). So, my guess is that we conceived the day that was closer to ovulating.

Re: about the boy/girl thing in TCOYF...
Terri, I was reading some ovulating and baby making article from Baby center and I see that we really do not play much of a role in the baby being made if you get my drift. Many sperms are released, an egg is released but there is not certainty that they will meet and make baby A child really is a blessing an a gift from God
