ABSOLUTE WEDDING CRISIS

Original post by lb252

OMG. OMG I NEED HELP!
I just got a call from someone telling me that WaterView Club, my venue, was getting evicted (4 months before my wedding!!!).
I only was able to get a busy signal when I called, and in response to an email to my maitre de, I received THIS from the owner:

There is an issue between WaterView Club and the landlord. We are working on a resolution. We know it is unsettling, please give us a few days and we will have answers

I already put down a lot in deposit, but more importantly, where can I find a place that has my date open in 4 months from now!!??

Please help! I need advice!!!

They had this posted on their Facebook page today:
WaterView Club: As of this afternoon, WaterView Club has made an agreement with a Caterer to take over WaterView Club and assume all of the contracts. They are agreeable to host all of the events at WaterView Club. We are waiting for a response to the proposal from the landlord, so it is in their hands. We have been making every possible attempt to make sure the clients are taken care of.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I advise you to speak with a lawyer about your options asap. They should refund every penny you put down.

I just booked my hall a couple of weeks ago for Aug. 2. I have lots of quotes/dates. If you decide to rebook, I may be able to help you at least narrow it down price range wise.

This is terrible! I would call NBC or a news channel to get their help to sort this out! I'm sure you're not the only one!!!

My boss lives in Bayville and said that the issue was with rent, not taxes. The landlord hadnt paid rent in more than a year. She also said that the owner of WaterView came in with moving trucks this week and took everything that wasn't nailed down. How unethical! (Ironic that they accused the landlord of being unethical.).

I hope all brides dealing with this nightmare have everything worked out and sue this guy for everything he's got. What a horrible horrible man to almost ruin so many girls' wedding days!

Re: ABSOLUTE WEDDING CRISIS

Newsday.com 4/23/13 (Sounds like a blame game to me)

Engaged couples whose waterside wedding plans were upended last week after their Bayville venue shut down said they're committed to recouping their deposits in court.

Several met Tuesday with the Nassau County district attorney's office to file complaints against WaterView Club, which booked about 25 events for coming months before it was booted by its landlord.

Others vowed to file lawsuits, but first must find a new spot to tie the knot.

'We've had to abandon the beach idea,' Joseph O'Keefe, 34, of Brooklyn, said Tuesday. 'We're looking at alternate venues, but the money just hangs over everything.'

He and his fiancee were scrambling for a venue to hold their 200 guests on May 26 -- doing so without the $20,000 they paid to WaterView owner Paul Burnup.

'We definitely have every intention of going after Paul and getting the money,' O'Keefe said.

The American Legion, WaterView's landlord, said Burnup was evicted because he owed about $200,000 in back taxes, back rent and utility payments.

'We're hoping the brides and grooms and parties will seek justice through the legal system,' said Vincent Libertini, commander of Bayville American Legion Robert H. Spittel Post 1285. 'Our heart goes out to them, but we had to do what we had to do.'

Burnup Tuesday would not address the eviction or refunds for events. He said in a statement, 'We have been doing everything in our power to make these events take place. Unfortunately, we are not receiving the cooperation we asked for, expected and that the clients deserved.'

The Nassau DA's office said it is reviewing the allegations against Burnup.

Tammy Pagnillo, 28, of Bellmore, who planned a June 22 wedding, said she and her fiance found an alternate venue, but must take out a loan to cover it after spending $13,500 on WaterView.

Diana Krass, 28, of West Islip, had beach-themed decorations made for her June 15 nuptials at WaterView. The theme may not work as well in the Mineola event hall she and her fiance booked at the last minute, Krass said.

'He's going to get papers served to him,' she said of Burnup. 'You just don't do business this way.'

Thanks for showing me the newsday article. At this point I still haven't rebooked, and I am yet to have any hope of getting my money back. I looked at the newsday article on their website and I'm so disgusted by some of the comments these losers write! Are there so few nice people out there?

Don't read the reviews. I don't care what the topic is about, any newspaper online readers are the worst with their comments. Just remember they are people with no lives and they think they are funny.

Ask the LIW girls about their feedback and you will see nice people.
