ACCIDENT ON NORTHERN STATE ...

ACCIDENT ON NORTHERN STATE ...

Included me this morning ...
I hit someone from behind. I was going about 20 MPH and someone slammed on their breaks and I hit them. The man was nice and calm and I was so thankful no one was hurt. His car had no damage but mine is horrible. I dont understand - it LOOKS like I was going 60 MPH but I was barely going 20. Thats because I was behind an SUV so I went underneath it (which caused a lot of damage to my car and which is also part of the reason why I couldn't stop in time because no one can see in front of those huge cars.) Im NOT blaming him at all Im just saying its a huge obstruction of view. He was a sweet man telling me that it wasn't my fault and that these things happen. He hit someone as well but that car drove away ::weird::

Anyway, my dad came and picked me up. I made him breakfast and let him listen to I LOVED HER FIRST by HEARTLAND. We both cried and thats our song for the wedding now!

Im so thankful Im not hurt and more importantly that I didnt hurt anyone.

**************
So much for waking up extra early to get to work before the students ... I had a zillion things to do. Now I have to rent a car ... and do a million other things.

WOw glad you are okay. New cars just crumble with low impact. They are good though for not being injured with whiplash though!

Hope you stay well.

I'm SO glad you and everyone involved is okay!

I understand what you mean about the damage to your car, too. I hit a Pathfinder with an Oldsmobile years ago and crumpled the hood of my car (not a scratch on the Pathfinder). I was LITERALLY going 7 mph when it happened!

Again, glad everyone is okay!

So glad you are okay and the other driver was too....that's why they call them accidents, don't be too hard on yourself. You weren't speeding, etc...Feel better

Re: ACCIDENT ON NORTHERN STATE ...

Glad to hear you are OK Justine.

It happened to me too several years ago. My car was wrecked but not the person in front of me.

Most likely when you slammed on the breaks the front of your car lowered and got under his bumper inflicting more damage to your car.

glad you're okay... I'm so sorry that happened. .

I always change lanes to get away from those SUV's since you're supposed to react to the car in front of the car you're driving behind, and you can't see in front of those damn SUV's... it's terrible. They shouldn't make them more than a certain width - never mind how tall they are! Hey... did the SUV you hit have tinted back windows? You can REALLY not see the car in front of you then... maybe they're illegal, and then maybe the accident wouldn't be 100% your fault (which unfortunately it usually is when you hit someone from behind).

Again, I'm happy no one was hurt. Even those little ones shake you up though, don't they?

And that's my Father/Daughter song, too. Don't you LOVE it!?!?

Re: ACCIDENT ON NORTHERN STATE ...

oh, i'm sorry!! the important thing is that you are OK. if there is minimal damage to his car that is better b/c then he will claim for less on your insurance (b/c the damage does not total a lot of money)... and then whatever they assess your car for will be covered under your collision (if you carry that coverage) otherwise, your damages will have to be an out of pocket expense... but i'm sure you have collision-- esp if your car is still being paid off (if you have a loan or it's a lease) b/c then you are required to have collision to protect the leinholder's interest.

so, no matter what you'll be set!! that's why we have insurance-- and the best part is: you are not injured and the other car is not like, destroyed-- which is a definite silver lining! take care!!! so sorry again!!

ETA: you may also carry rental insurance-- ask your provider about that so you can minimize your OOP expenses... if you have any ?s i'm just an FM away-- i used to do this stuff for a living!

Aww I'm sorry. My FH was hit from behind the other day on the Cross Bronx, and luckily all was okay for everyone involved as well.

Stay safe!

Re: ACCIDENT ON NORTHERN STATE ...

that stinks!!! the front of newer cars have crumple zones which is why they always look like the accident was a lot worse than it (usually) is. This is a good thing - the car absorbs all the impact before it gets to you, and therefore you don't suffer much (or any) injury (well - in a low speed impact like in your situation).
Anyway, I am glad to hear you are ok, its still a really scary experience!!

So glad nobody was hurt! I know it's such a PITA to deal with car repairs but at least the man was nice and not screaming at you and you are okay!
