has anyone taken this before? i know its kinda dangerous and you need to be on BC pills...
but im gettin really frustrated w my skin
how long does this take to work?

try Doxycycline ( sp?) 1st!!! i had awefffful acne.. i woudl cry myself to sleep.. thts how bad it was. i went to the doc and they gave me doxy.. i think its an antibiotic? i had to take 2 a day for 2 months or so... i kid u not.. after THREE days my skin cleared up!!! i still get acne here n there (who doesnt?!) but nothing like it was b4.. try that before accutane!!!!!

my brother took this as a teenager. he had really bad acne and it helped clear it A LOT. i think he was on it for a year or so but it really, really helped. Ask your doctor about the side effects though.

My brother used it and had a really good experience. It cleared him up very quickly. But I would be very careful with accutane. I know there's some crazy side effects

my sister took it and so did a friend of mine. You can absolutely DRINK NOOOOOO alcohol on it and you have to sign something saying you will abort if you become pregnant while one it. that scares me... but my sister is fine, her skin improved and she has 3 healthy children now.

Accutane had a lot of bad side effects on my friend. Actually they blame his chrones on it.

Janis, I ALMOST went on Accutane recently as well. My derm put my on Doxycycline and it REALLY helped me. I have been on it three months and my skin is WORLDS better. I still drink on it, they never told me I couldnt but it does reduce the effectiveness of BC pills by about 5-10% so you have to be careful there. I would say try Doxy first and then if that doesnt work then go to Accutane. I am also on Tazorac and Duac in addition to the Doxy. I can give you my whole skin care routine if you want!

My sister was on Accutane when she was in HS and it really worked wonders. But like someone else said you cannot drink, you must be on Birth Control, and you must have I beleive monthly bloodwork done. The side effects my sister had was very dry skin around her mouth and nose. As a result the poor kid couldn't wax her lip or eyebrow so she was kinda hairy for 6 months. But she was only on it for around 6 months and that was 6 years ago and now she just gets a pimple here and there. Oh, she did try the antibiotics, but the ones they use for acne, she was very allergic to. Also, she had very very bad painful acne. She would actually get cysts she'd have to get drained sometimes. I wouldn't recommend it for minor acne. This was a last resort.

i was on it years ago, and didn have a problem. the only thing was my face got really dryed out and really bad chapped lips. but it worked wonders for me! and work i would say in the first month

can you still get waxed to? i used to be on retin-a...but the results were so slow, and it made my skin super sensitive!!! my skin literally peeled off when i got waxed. extremely extremely painful!

i dont think i was on BC back then but i only used it for 3 days and i saved the pills. everytime id get acne id pop 1 and next day i would be fine. i drank i guess?? i only drink when im at LIW events lollll

accutane can be pretty brutal on your skin if the problem is not severe...

i went to regys derm and she was great!!!
i told her i didnt want to use accutane i wanted to try other things
so i use doryx tablets, tazorac cream at night(which is the shiiit!!!) and benzaclin in the morning. oh and i use re10 wash to wash my face and body

My friend used it and loved it.
I used acutane and it made me suicidal. Its one of the possible side effects. At first I wondered what was wrong with me I was extremely depressed and then had thoughts of hurting myself. I told my doctor and they had to wean me off of it. Besides that it dries out EVERYTHING and you have to be on birth control and take a monthly call in test before you get a prescription.

Have you tried getting a glycolic facial? My skin is so smooth. I have 4 more treatments and already see a major difference. Also, if that's too expensive...try glycolic face wash, toner, and gel sold at ulta. Its suppose to be just as good. I plan on going with this option when my treatments are up. Good luck! I know its frustruating!
