addressing invitations

addressing invitations

I'm starting to get my invitations together and I was wondering what you write on the envelopes.

On the outer envelop would you write Mr. Joe Smith and Guest and the inner envelope be Mr. Smith and Guest

OR

Would the outer envelop be Mr. Joe Smith and the inner envelop be Mr. Smith and Guest?

Re: addressing invitations

the second option - Mr Joe Smith on the outer envelope, then add Guest to the inner envelope

According to my etiquette book, you should write Mr. Joe Smith on the outer envelope and then on the inner one, write Joe Smith and Mary Williams (try to get female guest's full name - if not, then just 'Guest' will do, but it's proper to write her name)

The last response is right.... If you know the guests name put that on the inner envelope.

I'm dreading mine OMG the military titles and the seating is going to be a nightmare
