Addressing Invites-HELP!!!!!!!!!

Addressing Invites-HELP!!!!!!!!!

OK, I have 2 questions....in regards to addressing the OUTER ENVELOPE.....

Do you SPELL OUT 'apartment' or do you write 'apt' as in

Mr and Mrs. John Smith
1234 West Street, Apartment 2D

Or

Mr and Mrs. John Smith
1234 West Street, Apt. 2D

ALSO.....
If a couple is engaged, but not living together, should BOTH names go on the outer envelope, or is it ok for both names to just be on the inner envelope?

PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEEEE! I can't find any answers to these questions online anywhere!

Thanks!
Denise

Re: Addressing Invites-HELP!!!!!!!!!

I would spell out apartment on the 3rd line:

Mr and Mrs. John Smith
1234 West Street
Apartment 2D

And, if the couple is engaged I would put full names on the outer envelope too:

Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe

Not sure if this is according to 'etiquette' but that's how I would do it.

I agree, put the 'Apartment' (spelled out) on the 3rd line.

For the couple who doesn't live together, I think it's fine either to put both names on the outer envelope OR address the outer envelope to the person you're closer to and then put both names on the inner envelope.

Re: Addressing Invites-HELP!!!!!!!!!

I found this on an etiquette site:

Outer Envelope
No abbreviations are made on outer envelopes. Words naming roads such as Street and the names of states must be written out.

Wedding invitations are always addressed to both members of a married couple. Invitations to an unmarried couple should be addressed to Mr. John Doe and Ms. Elizabeth Smith.

With so many unmarried couples living together nowadays, you may be confused as to how you should address the envelope. The proper thing to do is to address it to both of them even if you are really only friends with on of them.

I spelled out the name apartment and we engaged couples not living together I addressed the outer envelope to the person I was closest to (address sending it to) and on the inner envelope I put both names.

I also did the same thing, but I put apartment on the next line

Ms. Jane Doe
25 First Street
Apartment 2B
Anytown, NY, 77777
