Addressing Question-Help

When I address the outer envelope,

Should it say:
Mr. and Mrs. William Smith

or

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Inner envelope: what do you put on that one?

Help Please.

Thank you

Outside should say if married
'Mr. and Mrs. John Smith'

Inside envelopes are not necessary. I didn't do them, but some girls do, it depends how crazy you want to drive yourself

But if you do the inside they should be less formal.

if the outside was above and the family say was your aunt and uncle

inside would read
'Aunt Mary & Uncle John'

I did my envelopes this way:

Outer:
Mr. and Mrs. William Smith

Inner:
SAME

OR

Outer
Mr. William Smith

Inner:
Mr. William Smith and Guest

I wanted to keep it all formal

According to www.verseit.com there are two ways to do the inner envelope. The outer always says 'Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith'. The inner has surnames only, so 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' or if you're very close to them it would say 'Aunt Jane and Uncle Joe'.
If an inner envelope is included, the outer should never say 'and family' or 'and guest' since this goes in the inner. Children's names go underneath the parents like this:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Jennifer and Joseph

Hope I helped.

I think the inner envelope would depend more on the hosts of the wedding. I did our envelopes as if they are coming from my parents (as the invitation implies)--so they would say 'Al and Susan' instead of Uncle Al and Aunt Susan--because they aren't my parents' aunt or uncle.
