So sometimes i start thinking to myself that I dont know where FH stands on some important issues...not anything that we couldnt talk about when it came up and work it out but out of the blue, i just thought to myself that i dont know how he feels about adoption if God Forbid we ever had a problem conceiving. (I know i currently dont have any issues and he doesnt so this was totally random but i still wanted to bring it up cuz you just never know).
Well anyway, i brought it up and i was surprised to hear that he didnt really like the idea of it. I was actually a little upset because I would personally totally go for it if we needed to do so. But ok, thats his view point but then he didnt even want to talk about why he felt that way so i got more upset. This was about a month or so ago and i never brought it up again cuz i feel at this time, its not necessary but am i being over sensitive for being bothered by his lack or interest to talk about it or the fact that we didnt agree in the first place.
Also, how do you feel about it and how does FH?
eta: i hope noone takes offense to this. actually his mom was adopted and so is one of he sisters, btw

Re: Adoption
FH and I plan to adopt at least one child. When he was 16, his mother died and his father was never in the picture since he was a kid. So when he was 16, his friend's family took him in and now at 23, he's currently going through an adult adoption process so he can have their names on his birth certificate even though they have told him that he is their son even without their names on it. His mother was sick for a really long time and she always told him that she just wanted him to be with a good family, and he got one...
Ever since we met, he has always said that he wants to do that for a child one day... To bring one into an amazing family and help them the way his family has helped him through the hardest time in his life. And I'm totally for it, and it's actually something we really bonded over.

we have talked about this. FH is fine w it. i am a bit more hesitant to be honest. its one thing if the baby is a newborn. but a lot can happen in those first few years of life, and im not sure how OK i am with not being part of it and, worse, not even knowing what happened......
I agree. If I were to adopt, I'd want a newborn. It would be even better if we knew the mother beforehand, Juno style.

Re: Adoption
FH and I have discussed this also. I would love to adopt (I am pretrified of actually being pregnant and child birth) but FH is against it (assuming I am perfectly able to have children).
We also spoke about what if we couldn't have children naturally and he said that he would have to see how he felt in that situation. He couldn't even answer me.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, I know that FH wants to have children so much that when it came down to it he would adopt if we weren't able to make babies.

Re: Adoption
This is def a topic I discussed with FH and if in a certain amount of time we can't conceive we will defentially adopt.

Re: Adoption
i think if our other options didn't work then we would definitely consider adoption. i really want to have a baby whether it be my own or if it means giving another baby a home. i think fh feels the same way.

Re: Adoption
FH is adopted. He is one of 8 children( none of the other kids are adopted) Having our own children is EXTREMElY important to FH. WE would try in vitro first but if all else fails we will adopt.

Re: Adoption
FH is all for it. I have mixed feelings. I know I would adopt; I just really want to go through pregnancy, and childbirth! Maybe I'm nuts. I even want an all natural birth!

Re: Adoption
We have talked about it and we are all up for adoption. The only thing that stinks for us is we wouldnt be able to adopt in the US. I have documented cases of depression in my medical file from when my parents passed on and that is a no-no in the US. So we said we would adopt from another country if that happens.

Re: Adoption
FH and I have had this convo plenty of times because I have this gut feeling that I won't be able to get pregnant. If that is the case, we would definitely adopt but the money scares us. I don't know if we could afford to do it.

Re: Adoption
weve never really talked about it... but God forbid we're not able to for whatever reason, i want to adopt, i really want kids, and if youre not able to have your own there no other way to have kids unless you do the surrogate mother type things and this i wouldnt feel so comfortable with.

Re: Adoption
Knowing that I will likely encounter difficulty getting pregnant due to some health issues I have had very lengthy conversations with FH to make sure we were both committed to having kids, biologically or adopted if we can't have them naturally. If he wasn't on board for this I don't know if I'd feel so secure in my future, knowing how badly I want kids someday, so I am reeeally glad he is supportive and feels the same way. I personally would need to iron out that issue before getting married.
