Advice needed!
Warning: Longish Post Ahead!
So, I've mentioned this before but I am not a religious person by any means but FH wants to get married in the church where he received his sacraments (even though the only times he has ever been inside a church in the 7 years I've known him were for his niece and nephews christenings!). I have (well, had) no problems with this. I always thought I would like a church wedding.
Well, first off, my dad is Jewish and when I told him about the ceremony being in a church he was a bit taken aback. Secondly, we found out that the earliest a ceremony could take place would be 11:30 because they do funerals at 10. Well, I want(ed) an afternoon wedding and any RH in our (my dad's) price range that I like has afternoon ceremonies taking place at either 12 or 12:30 and there is no way we would make it there on time from the church! Thirdly, we went to see the Deacon who would be marrying us last night and we got a booklet where we have to choose which passages, psalms, etc. that we want read for each part of the ceremony. I was a bit freaked out when reading them! I knew it would be a religious ceremony but whoa!!! Also, the Deacon kept mentioning that if I ever wanted to be baptised that he would be more than happy to do that for me.
So, now I'm thinking that this church wedding thing may not be such a great thing for me after all. I keep thinking about my dad and his whole side of his family and how uncomfortable they will be watching their non-religious Cathowish (my own religion
) daughter, granddaughter, niece, etc. pledge to raise her children Catholic and so on and so forth. And I am feeling sort of uncomfortable with that as well. Also, the cost of the wedding to make it a saturday night would just skyrocket and I know my dad would have a problem paying not only $30-$40 more pp (about 150 ppl) for a night reception but also the $775 for the church fee!
I'm not sure what I should do. FH keeps reminding me that the church is the only thing he cares about and says that I could choose absolutely everything else from decorations to flowers to music to menu. But I am starting to feel uncomfortable with the idea of it being so religious. So, I told him, if he wants it so bad, he has to ask his parents to put up the money not only for the church but for the extra cost for a night wedding. But I don't know! I'm so confused!
Sorry so long!
