I just found out that a friend of mine just decided to plan her wedding for two weeks after mine. I'm hurt because i feel like she's trying to overshadow my wedding. I've been engaged for over a year now, and i've had this date picked out for a long time. She only got engaged last week on Valentine's Day. My FH says i'm making a big deal out of nothing. Am I?? or do i have a right to be a bit upset?

Re: advice please??
I totally understand where you're coming from. Fh's friend did the same thing. I'm a little bit worried that all of our friends will be comparing our weddings and I have a feeling theirs will be nicer. They have more money to spend. But I think I'm over it. I just keep telling myself that our weddings will be different in a good way and I'm looking forward to being a guest at theirs (if we're back from our honeymoon by then.)

Yours is first. If there are any similarities, it will look like she is copying you if anything. Enjoy yourself and have a good time at both functions.

Re: advice please??
I know it's hard but your wedding will be so much better!!!
I would be like 'why the hell did she do that?' I can understand your frustration, and personally as a bride I would never schedule my wedding around another friends' wedding. nor would I use any place I've been to for another friends wedding either. (just had to throw that in! one of my pet peeves)
hang in, she's a poser!! haha used to say that a lot in high school.

I understand how you feel, but try not to make a big deal out of it. you will have your day, and she'll have hers. I think you should just enjoy the planning together. It'll be fun to plan together, you guys will have a lot to talk about. I think it will be fun!

Re: advice please??
honestly don't sweat it. every wedding is unique and the guests will wil enjoy both days separately. besides weddings are all about the couples, so both of your weddings will have completely different 'feels' to it.

Re: advice please??
If a friend or relative did this to my daughter, I am pretty sure she would also be upset by it. In response, however, I would remind her that there is so much involved in putting a wedding together and so many people in the bride's and groom's family to please. There are many reasons why a particular date is chosen. It may very well have absolutely nothing to do with you. I would advise you not to take it personally and enjoy your wedding planning. Don't let anyone take away a moment of your happiness. It goes too fast.

Re: advice please??
I feel it's better than it being 2 weeks BEFORE yours right? Don't worry about it....hopefully there won't be any more weddings to add around your date!

Re: advice please??
My cousin is getting married the week before me. But it doesn't bother me. Two diff weddings, diff. taste, diff. hall. I know each on of our weddings will be unique. Plus it's nice to have someone to share wedding stuff with. Use this to your benefit.

Re: advice please??
Dont worry about your day being overshadowed. Look at it as having someone to shop with for vendors if FH cant make it. Your wedding will be unique from hers so it doesnt really matter.

Re: advice please??
Try not to let it bother you so much, we are all entitled to our days.
Yes I think it was insensitive of her but now you get to have a second party without any worries as just a guest.
i would suggest not being in the wedding, you will be tired and too stressed out from your own planning to have to worry about being in hers too.

Re: advice please??
she totally has to live up to yours so the pressure is on her. once you reach a certain age, everyone gets married and there are only so many weekends. At least it's 2 weeks away so you could go after your honeymoon instead of missing the whole thing.

Re: advice please??
Thanks everyone for making me feel better about the whole thing. I know my wedding will be totally uniquae and different from hers anyway.
If if was someone else i don't think it would have bothered me so much, but from the first moment she stared talking about getting engaged, she tried to 'outdo' me. She even had the nerve to tell me (months before she ever got engaged) that if we both wanted the same dates, she would get first choice. I had already been engaged for 8 months and had picked out my date. I think form that momnet, everything she does bothers me. Maybe a little too much.

Re: advice please??
I was almost in the same situation - my friend who JUST got engaged planned to have her wedding 3 weeks after me. I too felt hurt, upset and angry..you are not wrong for feeling that way! And as far as your FH saying you are making a big deal out of it...I think that guys are many times clueless with all this wedding stuff
