Frank and I were going to look into buying a house, then he was laid off.. Well I have a job, however he has been taking on this contract work, and even when recruiters call he doesnt call them back now cause he says 'i was busy' or'i didnt have a minute' I am happy he likes this contract work but i wish he would just look for a REAL job.. Now the advise I am looking for, I was thinking what is the problem with me buying the house with my credit report and my salary? Is this silly? or should I look into it.. Our landlord keeps raising the rent, nothing works, hes in FL till April..i just feel that i am throwing away ALOT of money to rent a house when i could be putting it toward my own...what do you ladies suggest i do? We had a terrible fight about his career last night, and he basically told me its his career! but its also MY LIFE too right, and i want a home of my own and children soon.. so i would like to start with the house as soon as possible..

my FI is not a suit and tie person. He loves working with his hands, going to job sites, etc...he just started a new job. He is a TSA person. baggage screener in JFK. he loves it. he is making a little less then me, but its ok. he gets paid bi-weekly where i am weekly. So we bank his $$$ and we live off mine (paying bills, wedding, apartment needs, etc...) if we have to dip into his account we do, but so far so good.
we are having a house built next year in FL and my credit isnt the best. His isnt either, but with his job since its a federal job and he can get a transfer we'll be automatically approved for a morgage.
we're going to put his name on everything and then when my credit is good we'll add my name.
If your hubby is happy and loves what he does you have to support that. I know what you mean about wanting a house. Talk to him about it. ask if its ok to use just your name and credit and not his.
try not to fight. if he likes what he does no matter what it is, its a job and he's happy.

If you buy a house with just your salary do you perceive any future problems? Having kids and taking off of work? I know you said that he is doing contracting work but, that is not really steady right? I wouldn't want you to get into financial problems if you will both be depending heavily on one salary, yours. About him not calling back the other perspective jobs, since he just got laid off maybe he is unsure if he really wants those jobs and he maybe fearful of being rejected. If he was at his other job for a long time and got laid off, I'm sure he has mixed emotions over the whole job hunt. That is probably why the argument happened. Maybe the two of you can sit down and have a talk about what your and his plans for the future are..i.e., his career, a house, children, finances.

I think that really depends on what your salary is and how much debt you have. If you make enough that your debt-to-income ratio is not bad, then you can probably get a mortgage on your own. Before we decided that we could not afford a house and a wedding at the same time, Keith and I looked into the possibility of buying a house in my name. That was because my credit is stellar and his is less than.
I think you probably need to really look at your financial situation. What it is now, what it would be after you bought a house, and what it would be after you throw a child in the mix. I hope that it all works out, Suzanne.
Also, one of my BM has a house and a baby and a husband who does contracting work for a living. He has his own company. In that kind of business there are ups and downs, but on the whole, they are doing well. She still works two days a week, but spends the rest of the week at home with her son. Well, allegedly she is a SAHM. But she is never HOME when I call
