I am working on changing our health insurance plan and am trying to find out the good bad and ugly on Aetna--
I will be changing it for our company so it wil affect single people, couples and one family---so any feedback would be great
We are switching from Oxford to Aetna--
It is for a small business so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great too!!!Laura

Re: Aetna or Health Insurance Info
My company uses Aetna, and I love it. I have never had a problem with them for paying with anything that I have ever needed done.
You do not need referrals when you goto Doctors. You can pretty much goto anyone.
They covered my flu shot and the chicken pox shot I had a few years ago. I never had the chicken pox, so I got the shot. The shot was around $600, and aetna covered it.
They pay for full dental, and my company uses VSP for my eye exam and glasses.
The one good thing about my company is the insurance.

It depends I used to work for Empire and they had great benefits but it really is up to the employer what is offered. Aetna has a better payscale to Dr's which is actually a great thing because more Dr's accept it for that reason alone. I right now have aetna and like it, it really depends on what you offer ie vision ,dental, in & out of network benefits,

Re: Aetna or Health Insurance Info
now it depends on which of the aetna plans you are dealing with - i have had aetna with 2 of my jobs and the plans were totally different - they can be kind of hard to get referrals from - especially for testing and the like - the customer service is just so so - i tend to get more than what most of my coworkers did because i tend to be really loud and b*tch alot when i am upset - if you are going with the hmo one you'll have a harder time than the ppo one - all in all they are ok - i find alot of the people who use to take it arent in suffolk anymore - my dr tells me they are really slow payers and alot of drs dont want to deal with them anymore - i am thinking of trading over to physicains health services - they seem to get much better reviews from my drs. hope that helps if you want more info fm me - i know alot about health insurance cause i have cronic illness and i deal with them constantly - urg

Re: Aetna or Health Insurance Info
I personally never had a problem with Aetna. My dad, who had it for the past 10 years along with Medicare also had no problems with it. However he got a discounted rate b/c he is a federal employee retiree. He only switched to HIP because they offered a cheaper plan but he also liked Aetna.
Then again I also have had Oxford and liked them too. I have United Healthcare now. No problems with them.
