Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES
Hello Mrs.Miller2b,
I like your ideas. I was wondering if were having your ceremony in a church. if you are, then that may change a few of the songs for you, depending on how conservative your church is.
I, too, am having difficulty with the music.
Let's see, i haven't been able to think too much about it, but below are a few ideas that I am considering.
1st dance - Lover's rock by Shade (this song was the first song we danced to while courting.
father/daughter - 'In my Daugher's eyes' by Martina McBride. The words are really beautiful to this son.
Last dance - 'I've had the time of my life'. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warren this was the last dance song to 'dirty dancing.'
Greeting guests - 'What a wonderful world' by Louie Armstrong.
Gater / bo-k toss - we're wondering if we should just have an anniversary dance. If he do decided to do a toss. For the garter, we were thinking, 'who let the dogs out.' or 'nothing but the dong in me.'
Bo-K toss - hmm, I am thinking about 'girls just want to have fun.' by Cindy Lopper or 'this is ladies night'. But then again, i am still tossing around the song idea.
Lighting of the Unity candle - I am thinking of 'Ave Maria' or we may have someone sing something.
Initial bride/groom introduction into the reception - We are thinking either 'Cherish the Day.' by Sade or the 'Rocky' theme song.
Cutting of the cake - 'If you say my eyes are beautiful...' I believe this is sang by Jermaine Jackson and Whitney Houston or 'Spend my life with you', by Tamia and Eric Bene.
okay, this is all I have for now. We really need good ceremoy music, like when the guess arrive, the bridal party, etc. Considering we are having our ceremony in a church, we have to be a bit careful in our choices. But as for the party, i think we are just about covered.
Good luck

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES
Hi! No i am having my ceremony outdoors which is why I don't think I need that many songs. I too am trying to be very careful in the songs i pick. I want a really good bride's entrance song to really get the guests teary eyed and i thought the beginning of luther would be the one. i wish i had a soloist but i will keep my fingers crossed. i appreciate any ideas!!!

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES
Mrs. Miller 2b - Here are a few songs I would have liked to come into, perhaps one of these may be of use to you.
'When I fall in love... it will be forever....' this is sung by Natalie Cole. I thought this was a beautiful song
'I believe in you and me.' by Whitney Houston.
'Spend my life with you' by Eric Bene and Tamia - this is another beautiful song.
'Climbing the stairway to heaven.' by the OJs (if you really listen to the words... it's about starting your life together in what world you would consider heaven; this is a really nice song.
If I think of anything else, I'll keep you in mind.
All the best!

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES
You raise me up can be used for both. It is basically for anyone that did just that. and that you feel is that important to you. I am using it for my dance with my grandfather. I am having the DJ dedicate it to my grandmother that passed away like 2 years ago.

that is great... certainly a tear dropper... I was listening to the song closley one morning on the way to work and when I heard the lyrics I was like forget it his mother would be ... what is this song... I am still going to suggest it... but I think he will want to dance to the black anthem MAMA I love to see when guys are dancing with their mom to that song what a tear dropper... funny enough didnt they play that song at the end of sould food when the mother passed on... I guess ya cant go wrong with either song...
