Not being a racist....but where are the hairstylists and make-up artists that cater to Black women? Did anyone on these boards have any luck as of yet or nformation?

Besides 3 complaints is the amount of years they have been doing this, the price was too incredible to pass up. Even Fh was impressed, and that is no easy feat, i promise you

Oh, no, I'm not saying don't meet with them, I just wanted to let you know that some people on this board have had major problems with them. But 3 is really a small amount - my hall has 10, but 7 I think were resolved and I'm still having my wedding there.

I know you were just informing, she should be but I wanted to tell her some good stuff.

Laurie from LA Blossom is very nice and she comes to you for your consultation, she has some interesting ideas. I haven't met with the other two though...

Definitely meet them all and then make a choice. So you never second guess yourself later.

UPDATE: UPCOMING AFRICAN AMERICAN & CARIBBEAN EXPO IN NYC FEB 21 2004!! at NY's Hotel Pennsylvania 11am-8pm $10pp 7ave/33rd Street across from Penn Station

So not worth the $10 too many people and too many vendors, if you want to go and see their work in one place then make an appt to see them on a personal level then go, I thought it was too overwhelming

I like J&R's work and I like FM's work, you can't go wrong with either of the 2.

Happy planning everyone.

Oh, and I found an AA wedding coordinator - she's really nice and very inexpensive ($150 for day of coordindating). Her references loved her. Her name is Judith Gardner and her email is [email protected].

I love Flower Michele, definitely one of my best decisions. John takes such good care of you. My brother is using him for his wedding in July too. I have seen really nice work from Jack and Rose too.
I thought the expo was helpful but probably more if you are in the early stages of planning. I had booked most of my vendors at that point. I also felt more comfortable with the recommendations of the ladies on this board.
Good luck ladies.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Thank you ladies for all of your input; trust me, they are well-appreciated.

I did have pleasure of visiting all three of them, and I must admit, they each have what I am looking for.

Jack and Rose, has the price
John from FM have the style and demenor
Laurie from LA B is able to give me the personal attention and flexiability.

Creativity isn't really what I am looking for, considering I know what kind of flowers I want and how I would like them positioned.

It's really hard to decide, and I am at a loss.

I guess I have my work cut out, and some decisions to make.

Thanks everyone.

Fantastic...where are you cruising to? I was thinking about a cruise...lots of choices from NYC...saves on flying....

The expo is just fun that's it...who really has the time to run thru the yellow pages making individual appts, for every vendor you will need.....the expo is a place of information it's overwhelming if you let it be...this is my last one...I'm taking a few of my friends who have never been married or been on the 'in' when planning a wedding....not everyone is asked to be a bridesmaid, but most women would like to get married one day....it's one sistah sharing her vibe with another.

Is anyone using the Cake Diva from NJ or know of anyone who has used her?..also is anyone doing a groom's cake?

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I went to the expo last Feb. with FH and we had a wonderful time. We got there early to avoid the crowd. I found my photographer there. (Image this photography-Neal) He is wonderful. There are many interesting vendors there. We had fun but one expo is enough for me. My Dj & videographer does that expo on a regular. They are a father and son team. They were highly recommended to me and so far I am very content.
I have scheduled a trial makeup session with Mac cosmetics (W.125) on 2/7. I am so looking forward to it. I will post before and after pics.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I am doing a grooms cake made out of rum cake- that is what they normally use for grooms. We will have one for show and in the back we will have a sheet of it made and have it cut and put into boxes.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

OK - actually I thought only Caribbean people used fruit cake (rum cake) at weddings....I was just thinking of doing something different than a basic cake for my groom

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I use MAC on a regular, but I'm thinking of trying Bobbi Brown cosmetics which most artists say is better for African Anerican skin color.....particularly their foundations because of the yellow base in our skin

yes Charlotte that is what the caribbean people use. My family is from Trinidad and FH's is from Jamaica and the Bahamas.

Charlotte how do you like using the Mac products? Are you going for a trial session w/Bobbi Brown? If so post pics? Personally, I don't wear makeup on a regular but at the request of FH I will do it. Plus he is paying for it!!!!! I prefer tha all natural look.
