Not being a racist....but where are the hairstylists and make-up artists that cater to Black women? Did anyone on these boards have any luck as of yet or nformation?

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I had a trial with Lynda Lane today and booked her for my wedding. She is good. MAC will do a free trial whenever you book, but there is a big difference between a store counter trial and a professional trial personalized for your day. I didn't realize this until my trial today. Go to the counter and try on the makeup before you purchase. I love MAC, but I'm going to try Bobbi Brown's foundation. If you go to their website and search bridal, they have everything listed and outlined.

black cake and rum cake is the same thing. Some people like to put dried fruit in it like the type you put in fruit cake. I prefer it with out the fruits. A fruit cake does not have any rum in it.

Charlotte, a woman at my job got her cake from the cakediva and it was beautiful and tasted good. The two don't usually go together. I am having a groom's cake. I was thinking of having it made of cheesecake since that is my honey's favorite. My family is from down south so they will be expecting a groom's cake. We will give it out as one of the favors at the wedding.

Sorry to confuse you. I spoke to my mohter about the whole cake scenario and she said I am not even having a rum cake. It is just a black cake WITH fruit.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Thanks. I am going to have someone bake one for me and sample it. If it's good, I was thinking of using it as the grooms cake but only to be given out in little clear cake boxes with our ribbons tied around it....my girlfriends are joking me telling me they are bringing empty bags to carry out all the favors were giving out...I think I'm up to 5 or 6 per guest....I'm out of control I swear

Thanks....its only when I hear fruit cake I think of the ones someone gives you for Christmas and you give it someone else to get it of your house....that cake is hard as the road!

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I'm thinking the same thing...I love cheesecake also particularly Junior's from Brooklyn....but I'm worried about the heat and humidity in August...I wanted to give out the grooms cake in small clear boxes decorated at the end of the reception as people leave...like on the placecard table...I want the table decorated throughout the event...the last time I was at my catering hall I saw a Bride's placecard table it was horrible not decorated and empty!

We are jumping the broom. I never thought about doing it bc it's not something that is typically done in Haitian weddings. Since FH is is Af-Am, I asked him if he wanted to do it and he said yes.

Cool...are you making your broom or purchasing it? I think my FH & I will revisit this topic...my Mom asked me about it...that's how it came about

I haven't really looked into it, but I think my mom will make it. It doesn't seem that hard - buy the broom, decorate with ribbons and flower. (At least I hope it's that easy)

Hello ladies,

I just found this thread. I jumped the broom at my wedding and I purchased a ceremonial broom that was made in Ghana for $20. It is beautiful and I will hang it on my wall when I find a house.

I also used Jaqueline Nicole for my makeup and she was great. She gave me a few different looks at my trial and gave me exactly what I wanted for my wed day.
