Original Question: Okay, I am embarrassed because I am clueless about this.

This is my dress. What kind of bra do I wear? Do I need to buy a special bra or can I wear a regular bra? And see the back, I don't want my bra to show.

I don't have an answer about what kind of bra, I just wanted to say not to be embarrassed because I would want to know the same thing!

check with Victorias secret or fredricks of hollywood. They have bras that cut low in the back. They are strapless

A backless strapless bra is probably best.

YOu don't have to wear one. I am having my seamstress sew in Cups. YOu may want to consider it.

I am also going to have cups sewn in mine...so much easier than dealing with bra hunting!

Not sure what bra would work, but you could sew in cups?

I did a search on google and came up with the following backless strapless bras:

http://brasplus.com/strapless.html

Google Search Link

I'd take the picture to a lingerie shop (not VS or Fredricks - an independent store) and get their advice. Billings Lingerie in Southampton is a great store, and I've also reas some gals on this site tried Marys and had great success.

There is a bra called the 3 way convertible bra. If you are uncomfortable wearing just a strabless or cups. It is only good for a dress with straps. The thin starp on the bottom goes around your waist to being down the back of the bra. (I used to work in a lingerie dept.)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

I really like the idea of sewing in the cups. That sounds comfortable.

NYCMeghan, thank your so much for doing research and providing me with those links. I really appreciate it.

I think I am going to look into sewing in the cups.

Jen -

I can NEVER find those bras with the strap around the waist - I haven't seen one since my uncle's wedding 12 years ago!!! Where did you work that had them?

Cups sewn into the dress work relatively well, but if you're a C or above, I'd advise against them. They aren't THAT supportive.

I once had straps sewn onto a long-line strapless bra for a dress cut similarly (recital dress) - high front, low back. It looked great, and gave me the support I needed.

PS - HI JACKIE! Good to finally see you on here!

I had cups sewn into my dress, as did a few of my bridesmaids. We were all VERY happy with them, totally comfortable! Go for it!

I had cups sewn into my dress, and I am a C cup. I loved them, they were very comfortable. Some of my BMs wore them too, they all liked them as well. I am not comfortable in a strapless or lowback bra, so the cups were perfect for me.

I always sew cups into my dresses I wear for weddings or other things that I go to and I love it. It is so comfortable. I plan on doing the same with my wedding dress.

i wanted cups sewn into my wedding dress, but since i am a C cup, the seamstress advised against it. like someone else said, the cups really are not that supportive.

My dress is almost as low as yours.....my dress
I am a full C and the seamstress said they have bras that are low in the back, cups just won't give the support I need, so I don't look saggy in the top.

I am a c cup, and my dress was strapless so I really needed support, and my 'girls' were fine. I had two cups in each side for extra support. I posted pics on the NW board, so you can see that everything held up well

check with your bridal shop because I was in mine the other day and they wree made at the bride because her bra was from Victoria's secret (not from a specialty shop) and was not offering enough support (she was not a big girl either.
I have had cups sewn into my bridesmaid and prom dresses in the past. Idid love it but one con is that on your wedding night, you will not have anything sexy underneath.

If support is not an issue with the cups, I'll just add that a bra will give you lift as well as support. My gown is strapless & I wanted to go the cup route too (was also advised against it b/c I am a C-cup) but when I tried it on with a corset style bra, I thought it looked better b/c it just gave me a little extra lift. But ultimately, you have to pick what looks best on you and what you're comfortable with b/c you'll be in it all day/night.

i am thinking of having cups sewn into mine- i wouldn't have thought of it, but that's what they're recommending at the bridal salon.
