After the shower...

I basically posted the same thing in BHB, but how many of you girls plan on using gifts from your shower before the wedding?

FH and I already live together so we have enough stuff to 'make do', but everything I got at my shower is new and shiny. I want to rip those boxes open now! But I'm scared it's bad luck!!!

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

I recently learned that it was bad luck to use the stuff you get for your shower until after your wedding since its supposed to be for your 'married life'. My friend had her shower 4 months before her wedding and used like.. 3 things. A fire pit and some other things.

I'm a little superstitious so once my shower comes... I'll be waiting lol

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

I've actually never even heard of this. FH and I are still looking for the right place for us and at this point, we'll probably be moving in the day of the wedding. However, neither of us have lived on our own (unless you count college) so anything that we do have will be given to us as gifts and I fully intend on using them. That to me is the whole point of a shower, so you don't have to go out and purchase your own stuff while you're trying to pay for a wedding.

I'm not superstitious with that stuff. FH and I have a house so we do have a lot of stuff but anything new/I want to use from my shower I will use right away.

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

Yes, I plan to - it would be such a tease to wait! We have been using our gifts from the engagement party in June.

ETA: Things like fine china, silver, etc. we won't be using since they will be going straight into storage - our small apartment doesn't have any room! haha

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

We already live together..my mom already gifted us a new bedroom set because she didn't want to wait until the shower since it will be too close to the wedding. I'm not sure if we will open everything since it is tradition not to, so maybe we will open half of the things before and the rest after the wedding..we don't have too much space to keep everything until after the wedding. My gf just had her bridal shower, and she moved in with her FH and pretty much opened everything they got already since they will need to use everything now because their apartment was empty.

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

FH and I are currently house hunting.... Hoping to move somewhere in the next few months. Neither one of us ever lived anywhere else besides our parents houses and college apartments, so although we have a very *FEW* items from that time, it is not nearly enough to get us by. In fact, we might need to buy things before the shower just to survive! I've never heard of it being superstitious, but I kind of have no choice. It is what it is. Our love can survive!! lol

we already have some pretty good stuff so we can make due until anytime really. I'm not too into the 'bad luck' thing but I like to keep things 'fresh' so I will hold off on most things! we won't be buying a house for another 2 years but we plan on moving into a nicer bigger more 'home' apartment sometime before the wedding so I'll just go on a case by case basis lol! we're also registering from Pier1 and I will DEF be using my decor at the least!!

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

I have never heard of this superstition, but my heart broke a little when I read it. Its hard enough waiting for the gifts after registering, but I am expected to look at the boxes in my own home and not open them?!

So I came up with a theory to make myself feel better.. the shower gifts are meant to prepare you for your new home...hence the toasters and coffee pots. These things don't really have to do with your 'marriage', but the new home and the marriage are often thought of as one. In this modern day in age, they dont always come at the same time! So if you are in your shared home, I say use it! I don't think if you still live with your parents that you should use your new china or Dison, however. This makes sense right???

After the shower...

Marie, traditionally it's bad luck to use any gifts given as 'wedding' gifts before the wedding. That includes engagement party and bridal shower gifts.

I made a deal with Phil that we could each open one thing an use it. I chose the slow cooker (which I still have yet to use lol) and Phil chose the bath mat (it was a whole debacle- the presidents inauguration was less of a big deal than this). Everything else is in y parents basement. We have everything we NEED right now, and hope to buy a house to put it all in soon.

After the shower... - Long Island Weddings

I've never heard of this superstition. I must be out of the loop! FH and I are are will be moving into an apartment together in December and between the both of us, we just have odds and ends from family. So most likely we will use some things from the shower (or possible from x-mas since i'm telling everyone to get us stuff off the register).
