Is anyone concerned about the $$ they spent on thier wedding (this is for those who had to foot the bill themselves)?
It seems like most people basically spend alot of money and dont have alot after but start saving all over again? I wonder if that is true or just an wrong impression that I got.
MY friend just got married and they spent every dime they had literally. She said its all she dreamed of as a little girl so its worth it and is not concerned.

Re: After the wedding..$$$$
Out of curiosity...does anyone else feel comfortable saying how much they made( and how many people were there), Im just being nosey, ( sorry to offend anyone) We are imaging the wedding as being lost money and if we get $100 back we will be amazed and excited, but hearing the amounts actually makes me hopeful..lol..but its truly not about that

Now a days I do not think that you can recoupe the investment 100% and should not expect to. We are paying for our entire wedding ourselves and it is not easy! Unlike many other couples we decided to purchase our home two years ago instead of getting married at that point in our lives. We already lived together and knew that investing in a home would pay off, even though it meant waiting a little longer to get married!

I don't expect to make any money off my wedding. I mentally recoil from the idea. But if people 'gift' me money then I'll use it for the honeymoon.
Otherwise, nope we are back to ZERO after the wedding. This is why we aren't moving out before hand. We are staying with this family until next tax return THEN moving out so we can save up all over again!
Is it worth it? Yep. Every penny.

Don't count on getting ANY back. I mean, yuo will get gifts, but it's usually not enough to compensate for what you spent. I'm really scared. My sister's been amrried a year, she spent a LOT on her wedding, and now can't afford to buy a house. I don't want that to happen to me. It's gonna be a few years before we cna afford a house anyway b/c we're young and literally have nothing, but I don't want it to be all b/c of the wedding. I'm actually really, really scared.
ETA: MY sister spent over $50 K. She made back about $21K.

You mean there's supposed to be money AFTER the wedding?
That's what I was thinking..lol
But on a serious note, yes I am concerned about this too. Took me a long time to save what I am spending on this wedding (my part of it alteast) and the moving expenses too. I am worried we will struggle in the beginning. It's one of my biggest concerns right now.

Re: After the wedding..$$$$
I just have to say that if makes me feel better to know I am not alone with the money struggles. I am just starting (been engaged a few weeks) and so far booked just the hall.
I am just going to try to not to get carried away and pick which things are important to me and worth spending the money on. For example, my FH and I really wanted a Saturday night (or at least Saturday day ) wedding, but when we compared prices, the Sunday wedding is going to be dirt cheap (okay, not THAT cheap, but realatively speaking). Maybe I just don't know what I am about to get myself into, but I am going to try to be smart and no crazy when it comes to spending.
I agree - it is such an important day, but it is just one day.

Everything is being paid off before the wedding. We won't have much savings after, but I figure we can use the $ from the wedding for savings.
I personally did not want to go into debt for this wedding. I just think its such a burden to put on a marriage for 1 day when teh most important part is inexpensive (the ceremony).
