ahhh. . wedding gifts destroyed!

so really!!! gotta vent. . last night we had flooding in our apartment . through the buildings air con system and not only is our floor destroyed but our BRAND new comforter and duvet and a quilt were ruined and we had JUST put them out! We have homeowners insurance but a 1000 deductible. .so it's all basically just gone. . not to mention a bunch of books, cds, clothes, electronic keyboard etc. . and they don't even replace stuff just say go get things cleaned and send us the bills and we might pay!

SERIOUSLY!!!! it just suc*s. . . and the woman at the insurance company says 'we don't cover cds b/c they are plastic and you should just wipe them off' I was like they are 'SITTING IN A POOL OF BROWN WATER!!!!'

ah whatever. .. what's another 1000 after paying for a wedding. .

That is horrible. I am so sorry. Maybe you can ask your landlord to pay for it (under their insurance).

yeah it's an apartment. . we rent so hopefully the building will cover all the repair stuff. . just stinks about the personal things. . now if I could pretend my engagement ring was ruined then THAT would be worth the deductible .

Try to see if the store you got the comfortor from will work with you. Be honest with them and see if they cant help.

Oh I didn't even think of that. . I was going to see if they would give me a discount since it was on my registry. . like they have the registry completion 10% off. . which is not a lot but still!!! I'll take it!

Re: ahhh. . wedding gifts destroyed!

We had several items ruined two years ago when there was a huge fire at FH's apartment complex. Fortunately, they saved his things from being destroyed in the fire (most of the building was but he was on the ground floor) but everything was completely flooded through. It was crazy!

We had just done our gift exchange with my mom the weekend right before it happened, and I took some of the items back to their stores and the stores just straight-out exchanged them, even though they were musty and soaked and gross! I told them what happened and they said their insurance would cover them.

Maybe try calling the stores or going in there and telling them what happened. Hopefully they'll do the same for things like your linens.

We were heading to NC for Christmas the week after it happened and I had just wrapped all the presents for his family and had them in a pile on the livingroom floor near the fire place (it looked so pretty!). I remember the easiest thing to exchange were the slippers from Brookstone... I just brought in the box and asked for another pair 'because the box was messed up'. They didn't even look twice at it, despite it being totally wet and gross, and just threw it in their back room and gave me another box.

I kinda felt like I got away with something there, but she said it wasn't a big deal.

A few days later we were resettled in another apartment in the complex they put him in temporarily while they rebuilt the building (which took 4 months) and we start to hear noises from the other room. Turns out the bouncing Tigger doll I'd gotten his nephew was starting to dry out... and was now playing the 'woohoo hoo hoo' over and over and over!!!! It was pretty funny.

I hope things work out!!!!!!!!!!!! So sorry for the frustration. It's too bad you couldn't claim everything on your registry was destroyed... then the $1k deductible would be worth it....
