Akward question, dress related...

Any of you girls 'big chested'? What kind of gown are you wearing? And what are you doing for undergarments???

I went gown shopping today and was sort of disappointed. I found one gown (see pic) that flattered me, from what I could tell. (I wasn't able to get the sleeves over my shoulders!) My mom and the sales associate loved it.

Uggg....how I hate my boobs!!! They really limit my options.

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I am in the same boat, and thought I would not be able to wear the type of gown i wanted, but listen to me- TRY THEM ON. When a dress is your size, fitted to your body, youd be surprised at how flattering it is. I am a DD and I wore a strapless.

and to jeannad67, I just wanted to say you looked lovely that day and the dress does look great!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I just posted a photo from my first fitting --> I'm with you!! Everything seems to be cut for women in A/B sizes!! (Meanwhile, small chested brides probably complain that everything's cut for C/D sizes... the grass is always greener). All I can say is that I thought the last thing I would be able to wear is a strapless -- and lo and behold --> I ended up getting a strapless!

I was terrified of spending the evening yanking up the top of my dress all night -- but it looked great and they assured me this will be fitted so that it won't be an issue.

If it flattered you and you felt like a 'bride' that's the key. It's a beautiful dress - and the sleeves will be fixed so that they're not an issue... If you love it -- go for it. If you're still unsure though -- keep shopping --> you can always go back...

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I'm a 34F and am wearing a strapless but am having straps added. Try it on and see how you feel! Whoever is doing your alterations should be able to help you feel totally at ease in whatever style you opt to wear.
As for undergarments-I had a heck of a time finding something that would 1) be in my size )support me without being hellishly uncomfortable. I ended up going to Miriam's in East Meadow and they ordered a nice (but slightly utilitarian looking ) corset in my size and are doing alterations. I would recommend going there!!
Hang in there-you're not alone and I'm sure you're going to look stunning in whatever you choose to wear!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I went w/ a sweatheart neck off the shoulder
so it is almost strapless
I felt strapless made me look heavy on top b/c of my boobs lol
but I am not a heavey person but the wrong dress can make u look top heavy
I would try sweatheart neck for those rounded squared off ones with straps that are a little thicker like a tank top
definetly avoid spaghetti straps that is good for girls who can go bra less
even though you can get a bra built in
its hard if you are big to do that, may not look right
the dress you posted looks like it has a good neckline for a big chested person
is that your dress?

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I feel the same way. The first thing I did was get fitted for a good, strapless bra. Goddess makes an awesome one and I feel pretty comfortable in it.

I'm a DD and had a hard time finding a dress that would complement me. Stick with a-line, those seemed to do wonders for me. Stay away from anything with a high neckline or halter style (they looked the worst). I didn't want strapless, but I think a strapless would look good on your figure.

In the end, I found a beautiful Paloma Blanca gown, a-line with a tip of the shoulder neckline (kind of like off the shoulder). I felt it covered me where I wanted, showed off my waist and I just felt comfortable with it on. I could bend over and still be covered. I tried on a lot with tank straps as well and they looked nice too.

Good luck with your search. Sweetheart and v-necks look nice too!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

jeannad67 - You look gorgeous!!!! I'm sure you heard the word 'Radiant' nurmerous times at your wedding!!!

Dora - You aint kidding about everything being cut for A/B cups!!! It was really hard to get an idea of how things should look. I'm really tall as well which doesn't make things any easier.

Leelee - We're in the same boat! I'm a F as well. I had mentioned to my mom about getting a corset. I would think they would give me more support. I'll have to check out Miriam's. Where is she located in E. Meadow???

tammyjill - Like you, I thought the strapless dresses made me look 'BIG' on top (not very church appropriate if you know what I mean). But looking back, it might have been just the actual dresses I was trying on. I don't think they came up high enough on the bust line.
As for the dress that I posted, so far that's the one I'm leaning towards. Not only did it blow my mom away when I walked out, but it's relatively cheap compared to most gowns. I hate like hell to spend a few grand on a gown I'll wear for 8 hours!!!!!

diamondgrl1 - I tried that on at the Macy*s Bridal Salon in Lake Grove. It's a Demetrios and they were only asking $1100 for it, which I think is reasonable.
Here's the link to the dress:
http://www.demetriosbride.com

Karen62794 - Do you have a pic of your gown? Where can I find Paloma Blanca gowns??? And I totally agree with you about the A-line gowns. Sheaths and A-lines definitely flattered me the most.

Thanks for the input girls. I'm gonna go try on some more just for the hell of it. I figured I'd ask my FH's mom to come with us next time since she has 3 sons and no daughters.

I just pray (for my FH's sake) that I don't fall in love with a pricey gown!!!!!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

07052002 - I was scheduled for a breast reduction 3 years ago. The week prior to the surgery I cancelled. After some discussion with my boyfriend, now FH, we decided it was best to wait until after I had children. I also had some reservations about my surgeon.

I have yet to hear about a woman being unhappy with her breast reduction.

I must admit, I was whining to my mom in the dressing room that I should have had the **** surgery!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

Hey Jenny5150!
It's nice to hear someone is in trhe same boat as me!! Miriam's is a vendor on this site and a while back several girls recommended them. Here's the address:
Miriam's Corsetieres
1938-A Hempstead Turnpike
East Meadow, NY
(516) 794-4799

I was thinking of going in for a breast reduction after I get back from my honeymoon-any words of advice? I don't know of anyone who has ever had the procedure!
Another thing I read was that ball gowns are flattering for women who are busty. I'm getting a ballgown with a big tulle skirt-it kind of takes away focus on the upper half.
But no worries-you're going to look great in whatever you choose!!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

Another 'BC' gal checking in...

The dress you posted is gorgeous-congrats on finding a dress that may be the one!!

I was able to eliminate strapless and spaghettis pretty quickly. Hard to describe, I looked too broad on top...too much like an Olympic swimmer (unfortunately, without their muscle tone)...I have a pretty average frame, the twins just make me look bigger than I am. Jeannad67, I must say, your dress is stunning and you look beautiful in it!!

When I first started trying on dresses, I thought that a higher neck/more coverage would make my chest look smaller. On me, the opposite was true.

I was surprised at how flattering an off the shoulder was-and that's the kind of dress I finally fell in love with. Wish I can post it-I just can't figure out how-here's the url-

http://www.demetriosbride.com/Spring/9544.jpg

Now to find the perfect corset...

Good luck! The dress of your dreams is out there!!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I am a 40 DD down from a 42DD. I feel your pain. I found that a lot of dresses made me feel like I had no shape. Since the top half of my body is larger than the bottom I wanted a dress to equal out both parts. I found the perfect dress that shows that I actually have a waistline and controls my boobs. It is a halter v neck with a wrap waist. I love it!!!!

It is the Maggie Sottero 'Chelsea'.

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I TOTALLY feel your pain! All I do is complain about having a large chest! The funny thing is that I am only a 34D...big boobs are hereditary in my family...I have the smallest chest out of my two sisters and I!!! Before I found my dress, I never would have thought that I would be wearing strapless! It turns out that this style looked the best on me...it kind of holds them in tight! The only thing I would say is to try and find a strapless dress that isn't cut too low, unless you want cleavage hanging out all night!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

You can find Paloma Blanca gowns in:

Princess Bridals - Farmingdale
Bridal Reflections - Massapequa
Lillette's - Baldwin

If you go to www.palomablanca.com you should see lots of dresses in off-the-shoulder and tip-of-the-shoulder.

Here's a small picture of my gown:

Re: Akward question, dress related...

I am a 34 DD. I have a tank dress that is not low cut. I am constantly worrying about my boobs hanging out, and NO OFFENSE to anyone, but I don't like strapless gowns on anyone, especially not myself. if you go to davids bridal website www.davidsbridal.com and type in the style # FE80801, that's my dress.....good luck!

Breast Reduction...

Leelee, I don't have much advice when it comes to the breast reduction. I'm torn over the whole thing. My FH loves me the way I am (he's obviously a 'boob' man.) I don't have any back pain, just some slight discomfort from my bras. The main reasons why I was going for the surgery was for aesthetic & work. I was heading into law enforcement at the time and running around or wearing a bullet-proof vest with F's wasn't easy.

My FH and I just figured it would be foolish to have the surgery and then have children. I didn't want to go through the procedure just to have my chest go back to it's 'original state' after having kids.

The only thing I have to say is make sure you're completely comfortable with your doctor/surgeon. My surgeon met with me once for a few minutes, insurance ok'd it, and then he scheduled the surgery. There was no discussion about anything. That bothered me. The man was going to cut me up and had nothing to say about it!?! I get more feedback & discussion from my dog's groomer!

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck. It's not by any means an easy decision.

Re: Akward question, dress related...

V&S03 - It's by Demetrios. The Ilissa Collection.

Looks like I'm gonna' go with that dress girls. I emailed the pic to my cousin (also my closest friend) and she started to cry. She feels the dress is totally me. My mom loves it because I'm tall and it shows off my figure. (My mom has been encouraging that for years, while I hid behind baggy clothes.)

I know I definitely want a sheath style, but there doesn't seem to be many manufacturers that make them. I just hope that Macys can do the alterations like they say they can! (That's my big fear on ordering this gown.) They would have to order a size 18 in order to fit my chest and bring the bottom down to an 8 or 10. I'm just praying it can be done!!!!

Re: Akward question, dress related...

Just wanted to share (sorry I am using a different screenname) that I had breast reduction when I was 21-now 28 and it was the best thing I ever did. I am not using my regular log-in because I think it is a private matter. I agree you need to be happy with your doctor. Mine was wonderful. His name is Dr. Gold and he is in Garden City. By no means am I flat chested. Still wearing a C cup. It just made me more confident and it makes a big difference when buying clothes! So if you think it is something you want to do than go for it. Do some research and make sure you are comfortable!
