I few ppl in my fam always have to have a beer with their meals or a glass of wine....I dont know what to do. he gets so mad about everyting i just wanna make everyone happy

is there a specific trigger for him that makes him so adamant? Something in his past? If so I can understand how he feels but weddings are not only for us but for the guests we're inviting. A cocktail is part of that hospitality that makes a good experience for some guests so they should be able to have that.

WOW...this is going to be a tough one. I have been to quite a few dry weddings...always out of state. I think it is terrible. Keep in mind...I'm not a big drinker...but I DO think you should serve alcohol at a wedding.

Why is he so against it? He doesn't have to drink it if he doesn't want to.

i know that my family went to a fmaily members wedding where there was no alcohol and they all complained. my family are not big drinkers but people like to have a couple socialize and have a good time. But I understand how your FH feels. My FH and I arent drinkers if we have a beer or 2 its a lot and most times we dont even have that when we go to a bar. But i think this is something you need to work out with FH

he has never had a drink in his life

Re: Alcohol at recep?? ideas

I think that is great!!

But maybe try to tell him that not everyone feels that way and that your guests will like to enjoy themselves with a drink or 2. Maybe tell him that you will compromise with him by having just beer and wine like heather said. Tell him that you dont think it would be right to not have any.

honestly i've been to dry weddings..and it always turned out to be a mess...a lot of complaints, and also people then try to sneak liquor into the reception (which is even worse). I just think its the right thing to do for other guests to give them the option

I agree and would try and talk him into considering just beer and wine.. going to weddings people excpect to have a relaxing time and have a few drinks. Maybe tell him to have the DJ stress that everyone gets home safe and sound?

as much as it suck s i think people go to a wedding expecting alcohol lol talk to him about it. Let him know weddings have alcohol. If he is really putting his foot down about it then hey too bad for the guests no alcohol! it is your wedding...but if U wnat alcohol u guys should come to some kind of compromise

this is a tough one

you want to respect his feelings but i have to say, if you don't have alcohol at the wedding that is what people are going to be focusing on. . . it will definitely take away from the event ( even though it shouldn't )

it is different when people don't drink because of their culture or religion, because then usually a large number of guests feel the same way.

But if your families and friends both expect it, I think you should try to come to a compromise.

I would try to talk to him again, he doesn't have to drink, but the guest shouldn't be a problem.

My BIL does not drink either -- I know he has tasted it but has never had a drink. Even though he does not drink he understood that the majority of people do and enjoy and expect drinks at a wedding. When people who do drink don't have that option it is not always a pretty site -- where those who don't always have other options. KWIM.

Re: Alcohol at recep?? ideas

tell him that RH do not offer no alcohol as an option and they all offer open bar...which i think is true it is just included in the price per person to have open bar...

but exspecially in new york weddings most guests exspect it....he does not have to drink and most guest do not get over the top drunk at weddings do they???

this is a tough one for you.....

hmmm just keep talking him into it

I'm so sorry that you are having to battle on something like this. I agree with all of the girls though that it is an expected aspect of a wedding and guests are very judgmental when it comes to this aspect of a wedding. I know that the day is about you and FH, but if you both want to enjoy it your guests need to enjoy it and a dry wedding puts a damper on that most of the time. He needs to at least meet you at beer/wine, but as it was already said most places give the open bar with the package so its kinda of already there?!?!?!

I would really sit down and talk to him, try to get him to see the other side of things. For one he needs to remember that he won't be the only one there lol he needs to also think of his guests and although he chooses not to drink he can't force his way of life onto others by saying well i dont like to drink so nobody else should. Tell him to simply just not drink and focus on your wedding and the love you two share rather than whether or not others are drinking.

I am not a big drinker and i have no problem going out and not drinking if I AM the one who chooses to do so, i dont like that decision being made by others, and alot of times at weddings i do want a drink or two. Then you have others like My fh and many others i know that would be really annoyed by the no alcohol thing.

I would suggest having liquor for your guests, if HE is aganist it then HE shouldnt drink....a lot of people drink a glass of wine, beer, etc with their meals and im sure youll have a lot of complaints about no liquor. some people might even try to sneak liquor in as well if theres no liquor. you have to think about accomadating your guests

Re: Alcohol at recep?? ideas

If you want to limit yourself to wine and beer and not have hard alcohol at your recep, I would def talk it over with your BM at your hall, Im sure they can work something out for you. But I think you should have all kinds of drinks especially if you are paying for an open bar. people will just drink want they want to drink
