all clad???

Did any of you girls register for all-clad pots and pans? I just wanted to know whats the fuss over them...are they any better than other pots? Everyone raves about them...but i can't see anyone spending that kind of money on them..help!

I did not register for all clad. If I was a HUGE cook who spent hours in the kitchen everyday then maybe but I did not see the need for it

Re: all clad???

I was going to get All Clad, but a manager at BBB told me that Calphalon is just as good as All Clad, but its cheaper because All Clad has more marketing/advertising. So he said to go with Calphalon and save the money. He said they are made up of the same material.

I was torn between All Clad and Calphalon, but decided on the All Clad at BBB, that way if anyone buys the 10 piece set, they will get 20% off!

Go on Macy's website and look up info and they give a pretty good description. They are pretty heavy though, but so are the Calphalon.

I happen to love them!

Are those the ones that are super heavy???? If so...I did not like them. I need light weight pots!

Actually I just checked my registry and one All Clad pot was bought and one All Clad griddle. You could always get a few single items.

Re: all clad???

I cook a lot and always use pots/pans/skillets (barely use the oven) so I've been wanting to add at least 1-2 nice skillets to our registry but I was overwhelmed by the choices!

Right now we have a nice enough Cuisinart set (i think it was $99) -- they are red. Got 'em from BBB when I moved into my apt. I think the bottom of one of my skillets is a little uneven, but the pots seem fine.

I'm torn between registering for a whole new set of pots/pans just because now's the time to do it, and thinking it's a waste. I also dont know the difference bw All Clad, Calpalon, etc. I wanted to get a nice not non-stick pan since they always use the not non-stick (stick?) ones on food network and recipe books, and the ones we have are all non-stick. Any suggestions please??

I'm anticipating 2 small showers (one in NY, one out here that FH's mom is throwing me) -- if most of the things get bought off our registry I might consider adding an entire new cooking set because we have a lot of OOTers who i've heard like to give wrapped gifts.

has anyone heard if Emerilware is any good? the price difference is drastic so that scares me!

Re: all clad???

My mom bought FH and I pots and pans when we moved in together 2 years ago. They are just the Macy's store brand (copper bottom pots) and I love them. I know All Clad are supposed to be great, but I'm really happy with the ones I've been using.

Someday though, I want Le Cruset.

Re: all clad???

we registered for some all clad pieces and some le creuset (or however u spell it)....because fh's uncle cooks a lot and recommended them.

but i dont think they are absolutely necessary. my gma and mom and fh's mom are awesome cooks and none of them use fancy name brand pots/pans.

i'm a huge fan of calphalon. when i worked at linens n things years ago i got a few free calphalon pans and they are amazing. so that's what i registered for.

i wasn't all that impressed with all clad and i know so many people who have and love calphalon

Re: all clad???

if your not a foodie cookie type then go with a basic stainless steel macys tools of the trade - pretty good vs. cost. I do not recommend the Emerilware only because if you happen to burn anything or leave the pots on the stove with nothing in it the copper can melt and destroy the pot (this is from what i have read on reviews on this on cooks.com,epinions, etc.)

I have allclad and LOVE THEM but it was the expensive item i wanted off my list.
