I don't think I was ever considered pretty in HS. I was (and still is) a shock to hear people say that I am pretty.

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
I think I grew up to be much less awkward and more self-confident. I never thought I was ugly, but i was kind of shy and never one of the girls the guys was really interested in. That changed a lot in college, and I was shocked to learn how many guys were interested in me!

I didn't think I was ugly, but I never thought I was pretty. It was awesome when I went to my 10 year high school reunion and I got a number of compliments. One girl said, 'wow Ann, you look like a model!' and a guy said, 'why didn't I ever notice you in High School?' It made me feel great

I wouldn't say I was a swan now, but I was SO awkward as a kid and I grew out of that.

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
I am not sure if I was an ugly duckling, but I wasn't prom queen either. But I did come out of my shell in college and even more so when I started working. I am not as awkward as I was back then.

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
omg, I definitely had a very ackward face in my teenage years. I was definitely an ugly duckling and got teased a lot. It was even harder because my best friend was very pretty so all the guys would look at her. I only had a real boyfriend when I was 19 actually. I came back to this country and things definitely changed for the better. I guess it is true, the older you get the better you get.

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
I was a nerd, but all my friends were nerds in a school full of nerds. Also, every year one boy would fall madly in love with me and follow me around. Freshman year it was really weird cause he was a junior and I was 12/13. Senior year I tried to join the role-playing club and i felt so uncomfortable from all the attention that I just gave them my Star Wars role playing game and left. My friends did an experiment one day, I remember, by taking me from one part of the auditorium to another, and seeing how long it took for that group of guys to follow me. It was very weird. Not saying that I was all that cute or anything, I was just a girl into science fiction, and that was hot to them. I didn't have any self image problems though.

I was going to say the same thing - I was really awkward and didn't wear make-up or know how to accentuate my best features until I was out of college.
I get comments every now and again when I run into an old friend/enemy about how much better I look.
I think it's just a matter of maturity and acceptance and taking care of ourselves because I think most of the girls at my HS reunion looked better. The boys however.....not so lucky!!

Ditto. I wouldn't say I was ugly in HS, I'm just less awkward now!

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
I was pasty and fat growing up. People tormented me throughout school. They can kiss my a$$ now. I look and feel better than I ever have in my whole life. My only regret is that I don't have any scheduled HS reunions to flaunt myself at my tormentors. Sounds petty but it is long over due.

Re: All these childhood posts makes me wonder
i was definately no looker but, true to form, i was completely oblivious, and never really knew/ cared what people thought. i was just 'there'.
i think i definately cleaned up pretty well... but thats on a day to day basis. my mom was/ is tom-boyish, and all my friends growing up were guys,,, so i never discoved make up or became 'girly' until college.
