Went for my first fitting and alterations cap at 250.00 and that is what I got charged. I feel like that was a lot. They have to take a LOT in in the top part and the rest fitgreat...

Re: Alterations
That sounds like a lot! I haven't even started looking at dresses yet so I'm not sure if that's an average amount or not.

Re: Alterations
The alterations may look pretty straightforward, but there's actually a lot involved in terms of letting out and taking in parts of the dress. That doesn't mean that I agee with over-charging for alterations, but tailoring is a skill and not everyone knows how to do it let alone is good at it.

Do you have a lot of beads on your dress?

Re: Alterations
I'm ordering my dress this month... I should have it shipped within a few weeks.. I was really hoping to not get that many alterations (save some costs)
Good luck..It sounds like alot of money for your first alteration, too...

I was quoted $300 (and almost passed out!) at a place that I thought has very reasonable pricing, so I'm also wondering if that is just average pricing.

Mine is capped at $150, whihh I think is pretty standard but usually the busse'l is priced differently based on how many 'points' you will have.

Re: Alterations
Yes I have a lot of beads.
The other thing was my veil came in too long and they have to shorten it, but since it was their mistake they are doing it for 'free'. I am just wodnering if that is why they charged the 250.00!!! Hmmmm. Who knows. The bustle was an extra 150.00!!! And cups were 25.00. It never ends!

Re: Alterations
Honestly, you are at the mercy of the seamstress on this one. They usually associate 'bride' with an opportunity to make $$$. My dress fit perfectly, pretty much. Just the hem and bustle needed altering. My bustle was only one point. My hem was all lace, so, yes, it was a little bit of a pain to alter, but it was absolutely not worth the ~$250 it cost me. I went to 3 places. One wanted $350! It was crazy.
