Honestly I think the ones I have seen people make on their own are so much nicer then anything I have seen on-line.

I mean it is something you are going to keep forever, so if you are crafty and can make it, why not at least try. You have time to buy it worse comes to worse down the line

I was going to do a DIY project for the unity candle but the shop I am getting my candle centerpieces form said they can make one for $30. It will be white on white carved candle (they look like ribbon candy) with Fh and my names and wedding date on it. But I can totally understand not wanting to pay $50 for a candle .

Re: Am I being cheap?

I just made my memory candles this morning at 6 am ( while my boys were asleep), and they came out beautiful. Pics to follow once Darren gets home. I'm sure I can make my Unity Candle and incorporate my theme of Calla Lily's. Wish me luck. I'm attempting this on a wing and a prayer.

Not being cheap at all! I think making one is a much better idea (we're not even having one, we're doing a wine ceremony). I am sure the candles you designed this morning look beautiful!

I dont think it is cheap at all. Its crazy how much that stuff goes for!

I am going to do the wine where we sip from the same cup. I like that idea because its an excuse for the both of us to have a drink during the ceremony.

Re: Am I being cheap?

honestly I think DIY projects are so much nicer and sentimental than buying something for more $$$$

youre doin a good thing mel, when it comes down to weddings, people HAVE to be a lil cheap here and there! otherwise we'd all be spending $1M on it!

I bought the candles at Walmart and the ribbon, pearls, etc. @ Michaels and Walmart. Use a glue gun and knock yourself out! GL

I also think DIY unity candles are so pretty, and you can do whatever design you want on vellum. Plus $55..to me that is too much!

NO way, you know whats important and what is not. 60 for a candle is not important, make it yourself. I went to AC Moore yesterday and got a photo board were people write messages on instead of a 60 or even 30 dollor guest book. I am spending so much money all together things like this and candles you can save on.

Re: Am I being cheap?

No you are not being cheap. I agree it is way too much for a candle. In my opinion $60 bucks is too expensive for something that I will truly be using only once. I really don't even like the idea of a unity candle and I love candles.

So what is this wine sharing I'm reading about?

Re: Am I being cheap?

Nope. You are def. not being cheap. Some of the prices for wedding things can be ridiculous in price. $55 for a unity candle....thats insane. Def. go to Michaels and make ur own...it will be exactly what you want and it wont break the bank. I actually brought mine with the tapers and a nice rose design on ebay for $15

Re: Am I being cheap?

I know the store isn't opened anymore, but I went to FantasyLand in Patchogue and bought mine there for under $10 including all 3 candles.

I didn't want anything ornate, so I could have gone to Target as well. My candles were a white and metallic look, but were plain. As you said, try Michael's, AC Moore, but try Target as well, or Walmart for tapers, etc.
