Most honeymoon resorts will work with customers about honeymoons, either rescheduling if you are affected or giving money vouchers. Check with your place and ask them flat out what they offer vactioners there if a hurricane occurs.

Hi! I am not too familiar with Secrets properties. What part of Mexico are you looking into? As we know from this past year the Yucatan (Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen) can be risky in the late summer/early fall. But there are all types of travel insurance you can purchase at a relatively low price through your Travel Agent or directly through a travel insurance vendor such at Travel Guard, CMA or the Berkely Group. Just make sure that severe weather is part of the plan and not considered and act of God they are not responsible for. Several tour operators (Sandals and SuperClubs in particular) and resorts are pretty good about handling these instances. Typically they will give you a voucher for a free return trip within the same year or following year. Though I can understand you wanting your honeymoon immediately to follow your wedding.
Having said all of this...if the resort in located on the Western side of Mexico Ixtapa, Acapulco, Cabo, Zjuantunjao-you will be fine. They rarely have weather issues as extreme as the east coast.
If you have any other travel related questions don't hesitate to FM me. I am a travel writer and would be happy to answer any related questions.
Hope this helps

Re: Am I crazy?
personally - and i say this because i actually did it - i wouldn't book secrets for september because if (g-d forbid) there's a hurricane and you need to switch you're going to be extremely limited when doing that at the last minute. And, that's probably not what you want to be worrying about the week of your wedding.
Save secrets for a vacation (i was bummed to switch but didn't want to chance it) and i think you should go somewhere out of the hurricane zone. even if you end up spending a little more than planned, the extra $$$ will buy you piece of mind.
