Am I Over-Reacting?- Vent

Original post by ColliMac23

Ever since we got engaged me and FMIL have had the same convo maybe like 20 times? She wants to know the wording on the invite. I told her I want 'Together With Their Parents' because I have a divorced family and I don't want to make anyone feel left out and I don't want any fights. FMIL suggest I put ' Together With Her Parents and Steven's Parents Mr. & Mrs.' To me that's just too much IDK why its so important for her to have her name on the damn invite.

They aren't paying for the wedding, but they will be giving us a 'generous' present I feel like she feels she has input on everything. She doesn't want loud music or shes going to go home, she wants her name on the damn invite, etc.

So I ordered the Invites and I knew it was coming because she started off the convo 'While I have you two together' (because if she talks to me alone there will be a fight because she seems to be a lot nicer and bites her tounge when FH is around) and then proceeded to ask how we worded the invite. I said we did ' Together With Their Parents' and she was like well why isn't our name on it, blah blah blah. Like why did she have to start? What was the point? People know who our parents are get over it!

Sorry it was ind of long

*Yea well for my Engagement party they paid for it. It had to be at the Hall they wanted the only thing I had control over was the color and flowers. She redid her engagement ring after I got mine to a 7 karat ring that is insainly huge and obnoxious. I had a fit she got it the day before the party, so I told FH she wasnt allowed to wear it and she did. Not only did she wear the damn thing she kept shoving it in people's faces all night yelling 'Like my ring?'

**And when throwing us the engagement party she was all over it like make sure it says our names (just her and FFIL)

I'd totally understand ur FMIL if she was actually paying for the wedding but she is not!!!! don't feel guilty by not putting her name on the invite, u're def not doing anything wrong so don't let her dictate what u should do or shouldn't do for ur wedding. If she's giving u a generous gift....well it's what parents do, so don't let her think she's doing u guys a favor

ColliMac23's FMIL.....please find something exciting to do in ur own life so ur son and ur FDIL can plan their wedding the way they want to...thank u!

Tell her to get over it. I'm 40, FH is 42 and we're paying for our own wedding. My father who hasn't done much for me my whole life gave me $2500 because I let him invite 30 people. I have an amazing mother and FH has amazing parents. It was a no brainer for us, we wanted to honor them especially their support of our marriage. (he never got annulled and has a very religious family) and I have an adopted daughter. Our invitations say, Together with their parents.... I too come from divorced parents and I would not draw attention to that fact. The fact you acknowledged them is a sign of respect. If she can't see that it's her loss. Enjoy your special day and ignore her

I had the same problem. My family and FHs family is very old school italian and they FLIPPED out when they heard we werent putting their names on them. SO we changed it. But I don't blame you I was a lil pissy also, but I figured that it was something so little. Trust me your FMIL will get over it also. Good for you though for standing up for what you want

Seems like it could be somewhat a jealousy thing goin on here and she's not happy so she wants to outstage you.just do u and ignore what she says u ordered them nothing u can do an she just has to get over it..maybe ur fh can tell her to relax alil

Thats rediculous! She needs to get over herself, its YOUR wedding not hers.

I think if u did what she wanted, ur parents might be upset that they were 'her parents' and his family was named. Especially if neither is paying

Wow, you are definitely NOT overreacting. That's insane and quite frankly, whether or not she's paying for anything, I don't think she is entitled to tell you what your invitations should say. People are bonkers.
