I posted this a couple of days ago, but I am still in need of opinions.
One of FH friends is getting married at the Woodlands in March of 08, and it is really pissing me off. First of all, I found out at my eparty (not cool). Second of all, a huge reason why we booked the Woodlands is because we never been to anything there. Now I feel like going to a wedding there 3 months before mine is going to ruin it for me. FH says I am overreacting. How would you feel?

They're not from LI. But yes, I understand that. But I am considering not going. My BM said I really shouldn't go. FH thinks I'm nuts.
Here is where I think you're overreacting. Not to go to a wedding because it's at the same place where you'll have your wedding is kind of ridiculous.
Look at it this way, you'll go to this wedding and be able to see how the place really works a wedding. You'll see what it looks like set up and I'm sure you'll take a few mental notes on what you want and what you don't want. I say this is a great opportunity to get some ideas (not by ripping them off) for your own wedding.
I wouldn't waste my time being upset... JMO.

I would definately be upset just like you. I understand because the weddings will only be a few months away. Although I'm sure both will be very different and I honestly don't think you have too much to worry about.

Re: Am I overreacting???
It may just be fresh in my brain that I'm pissy now. I think as time goes on I'll forget it and get over it. As it gets closer I'll decide if I want to go. Now I'm still iffy on it.

I think it would bother me also but I don't think the day of your wedding you are going to be thinking about how you were already there for his wedding. Think of it as seeing what you liked and didn't like at his wedding and you can do it for yours to make yours better than his...lol :)
LOL. That's what FH says. I think it would have been ok if it was this year, rather than 3 months before my wedding.
Just think of it this way being that their wedding is before yours you can pick out what you dont like about it and not have it at yours.

I wouldn't let it get you down.. I agree with those saying think of it as a dry run for your day.

Maybe your friend isn't doing it on purpose. She probably picked the woodlands for the same reasons you did.

Re: Am I overreacting???
Come on guys give her a break this is her wedding!! OVERACTING? NO you are totally not overreacting - I would be upset as well!!
I do agree that would definitely go to the wedding though!! and check out every littile detail and go home and make a Large list of : Definite DONTS and DOS for the of your wedding - and give it to the woodlands.
actually since i am getting married at the woodlands as well, can i come with you as your guest? hahahahI Seriousely though, think of it as a way of seeing your wedding through your guests eyes.

Re: Am I overreacting???
I would be annoyed if they knew you were already getting married there. But, your wedding will be completely different from theirs and you will have a chance to shine even though they are at the same RH.

Re: Am I overreacting???
Tough one! Honestly, I think that I would be mad. For instance I have been to about 1000000 functions at Russo's on the Bay. SO if I booked Russo's there is no way I could be mad if someone else booked there simply because it is a popular place, especially for all of our guests. HOWEVER if I booked a place that is less known by my guests I would be annoyed if someone else booked there before me. Don't stress too much though, it is NOT worth it!!!!

Re: Am I overreacting???
I understand how you feel, I have never been to a wedding at my RH either and I would be furious if my friend had her wedding there before me, because yeah it kinda ruins it for you. But if you look at it on a positive note, you can go to the wedding and see what you can do better for your own wedding, like if something goes wrong at your friends wedding you can make sure it does not go wrong at yours, etc, you can look for ways to make your own better, you see what I am saying

Re: Am I overreacting???
I totally understand. I know its odd because JT is soo popular BUT most of my guests, fiance and myself have NEVER been to an event there which was important to me because i wanted it to be 'my wedding', for example, i love the swan club but my friend lauren got married there- so thats 'lauren's wedding!'
are you close with fh friend too? if not, maybe he could just go.
are there a lot of the same guests? if not, then thats a plus for you - not like the same people going to the same place twice.
do they know that you are upset about it? if they dont know, they wont think you being sick that day as shady -- HEY you are paying ALOT of money for YOUR money-if this will ruin your day-dont go-unless you are close with them too.
are there more than one room at the woodlands? is it in the same room? -->different atmosphere if different rooms.
how to make the best of it:
as mentioned before definitely take note on things you want better or different for your day
and think of it as you and fh night to dance and hold hands and love each other day dreaming about the moment you are able to celebrate your marriage. stand in spots that you want to kiss on your day, find a place to hide away for 5 minutes and kiss away from your guests, dance in the spot that you will dance in 3 months as husband and wife. -- that aint so bad!!! : )

No you are not overreacting I would feel the same way, but go to the wedding anyway just to see how you can make yours better.

Re: Am I overreacting???
I so know how you feel! FH's friend got engaged soon after we did and was even considering East Wind (our place) for their reception. I straight up told FH that if they had it there that I would not attend. They are getting married this AUgust and it would be 8 months before our wedding. And to mka eit worse FH is in teh BP so that would have been even more weird for me not to show up.
Thank goodness they went with Leonards. Because I really dont know what I would have done. And FH was so torn because he didnt want to go there before our wedding either.
Well, I know I was no help witht his but I hope you can work something out!

Re: Am I overreacting???
I would be so pissed off....She knew and then booked the same place, what a *****.........I am assuming, of course, that you run the same circles, so now all your friends will see your place at her wedding....Yes, it is difficult to plan a Long Island wedding at a place where all your friends haven't been before. I know the woodlands and it is not cheap and it is a unique location, which is why you booked the place. Yes, stewing in it isn't going to help you, but I would call her up and tell give her a piece of my mind, Then I would boycott......*****.....

Re: Am I overreacting???
I would be pretty upset I must admitt...I mean you put time and $$$ into this let alone researching!!! I know it took us forever +++ many stressful nights to finally pick our place. So I think if a a friend swiped that rt under my feet, id be so pissed. But all in all you can't control things...so make the best of it. Def try not to let it get to you too bad.....who knows their wedding may totally fall through!

Re: Am I overreacting???
I can understand why you would be upset. I would be to. one of my friends booked ther wedding 2 weeks before mine and another booked 1 week after. I had mine booked months before either of them. I think when it comes down to it people tend to do what is good forthemselves. But I think true friends always consider each other. Weddings are definitely a way to see who is truly genuine. Think of it as a way to bring out the new!!!
