American just cancelled my direct flights to St. Lucia

Same here.....when are you going & which resort ?? We leave 9/29/08-10/6 sandals halcyon

You're going to have a great time at the Halcyon- DH and I stayed there when we were on our HM in St. Lucia.

If you have the trip insurance, can you cancel St. Lucia and change the HM altogether??

I just checked online and it seems they still have it available until Labor Day. Maybe they are keeping it just for the summer

I think with the insurance you can only rebook the date (not sure but just guessing here).

This happened to me too! Stopovers are just not an option for me.
When I inquired about changing my flight to a different destination, AA said they would charge $100 per ticket for a change fee! Does anyone else think that if they cancel your flight, you shouldnt have to pay that??

I'll let you know if I have any luck getting them to waive the fee.

They were the only airline that did direct flights there and they just cancelled them all. Flights went from 4.5 hours to 9 hours!! And they didn't even lower the fare. A$$holes

I'd be fuming!!!!!!!!!

You should not have to pay if they cancelled your flight. Ask to speak to a manager.

they do this to everyone going to st. lucia!!! My sister went TWO years ago and they did the SAME thing...she wound up having to stopover in Jamaica first and it took her literally ALL day to get there!!!

I work in the travel industry.....
If you want to change your destination completely becuase they cancelled your direct flight then yes, you will pay the change fee plus fare difference....its a different destination, different fare etc.
Thats just the rules for every airline.

ETA try seeing if they can refund the ticket for you....tell them that the time doesnt work....anything like that. Good luck!
