Anna pregnancy question....
On my last dr. visit at 23 weeks (I had gained 6 lbs) and the nurse said Oh my (thats a lot to gain in one month) you really have to watch it. Anyway I then said to her why have I gained too much so far (at that point it had been a total of 11 lbs.) I am not overweight and the books all say 30 to 35 lbs. this nurse told me 20 to 25 lbs - what is your opinion on this. Is it b/c I am small (5'2' and I started our at 115)My other question is did you find it difficult in the 3rd trimester not to gain - I am now starting month 6 and I feel very hungry and my back hurts all the time which makes me not want to mover around as much. I know how important exercist is but when it's painful - anyway, I don't see how I am only going to gain 20-25 lbs.
Just looking to see what you or anyone else thinks.
Thanks in advance!!!!
I am so happy for your and DH.
Congrats on your new baby boy!!!

Re: Anna pregnancy question....
Dont listen to that silly nurse !!! I HATE how one person's opinion can and WILL affect us at times that we are so excited and careful, and listening to every little word told to us ! That doesnt sound like too much weight at all !
I gained 36lbs. You really should eat how you normally eat, and as far as exercise, listen to your body. If you feel exhausted, dont overdo yourself. I took a prenatal water aerobics class, which was great. Not really physically intensive at all and felt great. I started out eating really healthy in the beginning, lots of salads and fruits, I told myself not to PIG OUT just because I was prego, lol, well towards the ends, being it was summer and all the BBQ's, I kinda didnt keep my promise to myself, and I ate lots of goodies ! cakes and ice cream all the time.... So I did put on most of it towards the end...
I have also heard that the norm is up to 35lbs.
And you have a small frame, so weight gain should be the furthest worry from your mind !!
Enjoy your growing belly, dream about that precious baby, and savor every minute of your pregnancy !!!
TUMMY PATS !!

pregnancy question....
I would ask the R or the other nurses. ALl the books I have read have said up to 35 pounds is healthier. My best friend gained more than that w. her first....and when she was preg w. her 2nd- she hadn't lost much of her weight. Granted, she was not happy about it but delivered two healthy and beautiful boys!
I was overweight b4 becoming preg due to the great dinners my hubby whips up
I am in my 33rd week and at a gain of 34 pounds.
No one has said 'boo' to me until my last visit.
All of a sudden now my weight is a concern. ( and this was an appt w. a midwife that I hadn't met w. b4)
Now she tells me try not to gain any more weight for my remaining 6 weeks.
WHAT IS SHE NUTS! this is the time that the baby gains the most weight!
I asked my hubby about this and he thinks I eat LESS now than what I would normally eat. Esp for dinner- I'm famished, sit wdown, have 4-5 forkfulls and I'm done!
I'll ask about it at my next appt on mon and let you guys know....

Re: pregnancy question....
Phyl, I remember that feeling of being full so fast. Its because that baby is taking up so much space ! I even felt that full feeling when I hadnt eaten !!
ITs like my ribcage was gonna explode ! (God i miss those days !!)
Ladies, as long as the babies healthy and you are healthy ! God Bless and enjoy ! Dont let the Dr's make you crazy !

Re: Anna pregnancy question....
Junebride, I am about the same size as you- almost 5'2' and 106 lbs. pre-preg. I did not gain any weight until the fourth month amd then it came on quickly in the 5th and 6th month. I was the one who was concerned, not the doctors. I was eating well and exercising regularly so they said I must be catching up and need the weight- not to worry about it. I was also on track for the suggested 25-35 lb weight gain I have heard and read about. I was also told by my dr.'s up to 40lbs. is not bad for someone who started out on the light side. It is more common to gain more, not less since you are tiny to begin with. I am now up about 25 lbs. and 32 wks. preg. I seem to gain about a pound per wk. this trimester and my appetit diminished. I have never been scolded by any dr. in the group. Do not listen to the comments from your dr. and consider swithcing to one you are comfortable with (after the baby is born).Best of luck for a safe delivery.

Re: Anna pregnancy question....
LOL, I gained 38-40 lbs, I think. It became a blur at the end and I stopped looking at the scale. There are 2 doctors in my OB's practice, one focused on weight the other one not at all. It seemed like the months I gained in leaps and bounds, it was when I had my monthly with the weight-focused doctor. I got a resentment against him and DH ironically said 'Since you don't like him, you know he'll probably be the one on call when you deliver' Sure enough, he's the one who delivered Luke!FYI, there is nothing wrong with the amount of weight you gained, you will not be gaining more and more each month, like I said it varied for me. One month I gained 6 lbs, the next 1 lb. Besides, how much you weigh at your monthly visit is not necessarily a true reflection of how much you really weigh, there are alot of factors involved. Especially as you get further along, there is the fun stuff like retaining water and constipation. Try not to let the nurse bother you. Girl, you are a skinny little nothing compared to me and the baby and I fared fine. In fact I fit in some of my pre-preggy pants already. There is such a thing as an unhealthy amount of weight to gain but trust me, you are NOWHERE near it. The uterus of an unpregnant woman holds less than 2 oz. When pregnant, it needs to expand to the size of a baby and if measured, could hold about 50 oz. so keep some perspective. I have had more encounters with healthcare professionals in the past 10 months than I ever did in my life and I am finding more and more that you will hear varied opinions and some of it is just that, an opinion.
Also, at the end, yes, the baby gains its weight but guess what? each time I went for my weekly visits I either stayed the same or lost weight - it's not unusual at all so don't think that just because you gained that much this month, that it will ramp up each month. I, like Anna, didn't begrudge myself the cravings - if I wanted something, I had it. I didn't subsist on milkshakes but if I wanted that Carvel milkshake, half chocolate, half vanilla mix, I had it and wasn't going to let it ruin my day. I als ate healthy alot fo the time too so it balanced out.
Hang in there :o)

Thanks!!!
I feel better already - you have so much to worry about being pregnant and weight should be the least of our worries. It just seems that's what the doctors visits seem to focus on most.As I said - it's hard to know what's right - I woke up at 5:30 this morning (and had to get up to EAT... and don't think that when I got to work this morning that I didn't have my 2nd breakfast.
Thanks ladies!

Re: Thanks!!!
JuneBride - good, im glad youre listening to your body and eating when youre hungry :)
Its gotten to the point where a nurse said to us in a Pregnancy Class, 'I Remember way back when they used to say 'youre eating for 2 !' well guess what happens if you eat for 2 ? you will look like 2 !' She was basically saying DONT EAT TWICE AS MUCH and dont pig out... which kinda annoyed me, but she did have a point...
IMO , 'everything in moderation' applies whether youre prego or not, just enjoy the foods you love, and dont deprive yourself of anything !
It actually started to annoy me when people would say 'oh here, eat more, youre eating for 2 !' I felt like a whale that was mal-nourished and needing food desperately.. LOL.. it got really annoying, and i purposely wouldnt eat that much to annoy those who would say it.. They think youre just going to eat everything in sight because youre pregnant.. now THAT is annoying.
You will eat WHAT you want WHEN you want it !
